Our waitress was fantastic! She was the only server on duty, but she explained the situation to us, and we were perfectly fine with it. Unfortunately, the bartender was a bit underwhelming. He seemed to be trying his best, but when we ordered several Irish beers and someone else at the table, who didn’t care about the brand, asked for a light beer, it became clear he was out of his depth. He had no idea what we were talking about when we asked for a Michelob Ultra. I understand this is an Irish bar, and we had plenty of Irish beers, but the one domestic beer ended up being a bit of a challenge. As for the food, it wasn't particularly exciting but it wasn’t bad either. The salmon salad was overly salty, and we ended up tossing it out. Overall, there was nothing wrong with our visit, but I don’t think we’d go back.
Not sure why I went back the second time. I thought an old hotel above a pub was quirky and charming. But when my room wasn't cleaned the whole stay, no fresh towels, and trash cans not emptied, I should have known better. Add the fact that you can't park your car in front of the hotel, they don't have a valet service, the front desk is in the bar/and the bartender, and you can't access the hotel until the bar/restaurant opens...the charm faded quickly. The rooms are dark, the decor is dated, the towels are paper thin, the place doesn't feel clean, and the noise from the nightlife is unavoidable. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the beds are very comfortable. So, if you want a cheaper priced hotel and comfortable bed, this will do. If you are looking for luxury, convenience, service, cleanliness, and customer service, this is not the place.
On the positive side, the rooms themselves are quite spacious and well-appointed, featuring all the amenities you'd expect from a boutique hotel. Just make sure to steer clear of rooms 201 and 202. Additionally, while breakfast is complimentary, it’s not particularly impressive—you may want to consider dining elsewhere.
The Clarke Hotel was kind enough to support a charity with a $149 certificate for a night’s stay for the silent auction. What an awesome way for “locals” to explore the amazing accommodations! The room was comfortable, and the shower had five shower heads! We were quite impressed with the complimentary breakfast of quiche and Kringle, two meats and a croissant! Now I can say from personal experience: The Clarke Hotel is a NICE place to stay in Downtown Waukesha!
