We have stopped by on numerous occasions before we figured out their hours It being the Festival du Canard they are presenting a menu with variations of duck The duck soup was very well balanced, the main was a duck breast with a blueberry sauce. The accompanying vegetables were perfect, amazing what a good chef can do with potatoes. . My partner is vegetarian so they prepared her a Moroccan style dish. Nicely spiced and hearty. The host suggested a moderate priced Bordeaux 50% less than the one we were considering and we were not disappointed. Overall the ambience was very nice well maintained Victorian era building which also serves as an inn. We will return happily.
The Joli Vent Resto was basically recommended to us by our hosts from La Venise Verte B&B, as well as the nearby information centre's clerk.It was our last evening in Knowlton. My wife and I wanted to cap our stay by enjoying a formal dining experience. We understood that the menu at The Joli Vent changes monthly. So, if you're reading this today, and it's not August chances are the menu will have been updated. We made our reservations (highly recommended) and were greeted cordially. We had a lovely table for two by the window. Our hostess provided the menu along with the wine list. Again, the menu is prepared for that month. Chef Hans selects seasonally grown products (mostly local) and prepares them with extreme care.We are always aware of how we are treated and rate each location/establishment by the quality of customer service. So, basically, if customer service is poor, the quality of food from the kitchen will also be equally reflected. The Joli Vent Resto surpassed all our expectations... to some extent.Before I begin to tell you about the food, Knowlton (Lac Brome) is well known for their duck (canard). We had already experienced it elsewhere, so decided to try something different.Now, let's chat about the food: The menu is not extensive, but well thought out, both in the starters and main (entrées). My wife decided on the braised pork shank. I chose to bless my taste buds with the lamb stew. My wife's meal was absolutely superb (I tried it, of course). On the other hand, I was unpleasantly surprised. The stew was completely overpowered by the red wine used in the sauce - a bit too much. And, perhaps a bit too long sitting on the stove. Lamb cuts are fairly delicate. It doesn't take much to spoil it. The sauce was a somewhat bitter. And the meat was chewy. The chanterelle mushrooms (even more delicate) were black and faded into the background. Tasteless. Now, I could have sent it back, but wanted to give it time for my taste buds to accustom - perhaps to some flavour I hadn't had before. It didn't work, and I partially finished it. All in all, we still enjoyed the experience of trying something different.For dessert, my wife chose to decline. I, on the other hand, went with the cheese plate. Let me be very specific, it is a lovely cheese plate! Just the right amount of cheese, perfectly selected with appropriate accoutrements. We completed the evening with espresso (awesome) and cognac.Now, for the ambience: The décor is relaxed and nicely decorated. The table linen is fresh and soft. Cutlery well kept and clean. Flowers by the window were also fresh.Bottom line: Would we go back? Absolutely! Would we recommend it? Without hesitation!Did we enjoy it? Yes we did... and so will you!
We stopped in Lac Brome during a recent bike trip with Discovery Bike Tours(Woodstock Vt) and were lucky to be lodged at this lovely Auberge.The setting is beautiful, about a half mile from the lake , quiet with beautiful grounds and an outdoor pool.The dinner prepared by the owner,an awarded Chef!, did not disappoint. We had lamb Merguez sausages on a bed of Couscous with lightly sautéed vegetables that was delicious and perfectly prepared.Salmon was equally ingested with gusto by some of our group.A Tomato basil soup and a fresh green salad with an excellent house prepared vinaigrette preceded the main courseDessert and great coffee followed.The entire experience, lodging and dining were ja real treat and the breakfast the next morning with an assortment of fresh fruits, yoghurt, croissants, and herbed scramble eggs was also excellent.If you are looking for a beautiful spot in southern Quebec you can't miss with this delightful auberge
A very nice B&B site easy to walk around the pound they have on the back yard. We dis it in winter we even see deer running in the wood just beside us
I love duck. So i was very excited to be part of Canard En Fete last weekend. I expected it to be good. Chef Hans exceeded all my expectations. His Duck Muligatawny soup was absolutely amazing - rich and spicy. I couldn't decide on a main course so I ordered 2 entrees - the pulled duck and the thai duck salad. Both were sensational. And i almost forgot the little treat to start the dinner - duck crackling on toast.I enjoyed chatting with Chef the next morning at breakfast - which too was delicious - and receiving a 2nd sampling of the duck crackling.I would recommend this resto to everyone and anyone.
