Mel's Diner - Waterloo

The place looks good but the food is not up to the standards. Our food wasn't even hot when they served it. Food felt dry, burnt their homefries were stale. The quality didn't seem good either. Food isn't worth it but for a retro diner experience it's okay.

I recently visited Mel's Diner for brunch and had an overall positive experience.The atmosphere was charming and welcoming, and the staff was polite and attentive throughout my visit.I ordered the Meat Lovers Skillet, which was flavorful and filling, though the sausage and bacon were a bit overcooked and slightly burnt. Despite this small issue, I still enjoyed my meal and appreciated the great service.I would recommend this restaurant to others looking for a cozy spot to grab a bite to eat!

Great atmosphere. The restaurant is designed like a 50s breakfast diner. I love going there just for the vibes. The food itself is average (I recommend getting their soup of the day), price is also average, customer service is good.

We really like Mel's Diner. Sure, sometimes you have to wait to get in. We have only been there once when it wasn't jam-packed, mostly with students. But the wait isn't long and it's worth it. This is really comfort dining...in the diner style. Garishly decorated, jukebox playing, swivel stools at the counter, friendly staff. The menu is good and the portions generous. There is even a separate vegan menu which is great for us vegans. It's just a fun place to eat. The vibe is young and loud: we are usually the only older people there. The only drawback: the coffee is terrible. And the chai latte is not much better. We have given up on hot drinks there. But a small price to pay for good food at good prices.

Went here for brunch with my bestie and had the greatest time! Amazing gluten free menu and the service was fantastic! Love a restaurant that transports you back in time, looks and feels like a 50s diner. Place was clean and you can tell there is a level of care in the food and the place.
