This was a great spot for dinner after walking around the zoo all day. Everything was served quickly and was delicious. Three of us got the Carolina on my mind. Amazing. It was a sweet and spicy sandwich that was perfect. My daughter got Burnt Ends, and my son had 1 lb of ribs. Both enjoyed their meals and had leftovers. They had a wide range of BBQ sauces to offer as an extra kick for your plate. My son wanted ribs for his birthday, so glad we found this place. Loved it! We will be back again.
Average barbecue experience, though my expectations are elevated having tasted St. Louis style and Texas BBQ. I sampled the burnt ends and jalapeño sausage alongside green beans. The burnt ends leaned toward dryness, lacking the anticipated fattiness. The jalapeño sausage was rather ordinary, not particularly impressive. I'm inclined to give them another chance, considering I visited near closing time perhaps next time I'll encounter a more succulent batch of burnt ends. I didn't get a chance to try the BBQ sauce during my visit.
Holy cow!!! This is some of best barbecue I've ever eaten. Definitely the best on the DC area. Get the burnt ends and mac and cheese. If you're at the National Zoo and want more bang for your buck, it's only a short walk (uphill).
I guess we came at the wrong time (3pm on a Saturday) because review photos and Instagram photos make the food and everything about this place look superb. While the meat had good flavor, the service when ordering and the sides we ordered left much to be desired: The Brussels sprouts were charred to a crisp The mac cheese was clumpy and dry The coleslaw was not moistAs a bib gourmand restaurant, we were expecting a Texas worthy barbecue experience, but we’re giving it the benefit of the doubt that we came at the wrong time.
