Our friends go often and it’s always a laugh. Highlights are the masala dosa, mutton curry and the thalis. An unassuming gem in Walthamstow.
Dropped in here for a quick bite before the cinema the other day. Have just moved to the area and was delighted to find that there’s a Sri Lankan restaurant in walthamstow, as they’re few and far between. Hadn’t read any reviews so was surprised that some of them were a touch lukewarm.... We found the service to be efficient and warm, food arrived quickly, was tasty and reasonably priced. We particularly enjoyed the daal curry and lamb kotthu roti. We’ll definitely be back and would happily recommend to anyone wanting something other than a bog standard curry. Also looks good for vegetarians.....
My wife has eaten here recently, with a party of 10, and was raving about the dosa's so we popped in for dinner and thought we would give the thali's a try. The welcome was not exactly warm, we had to call the waiter to place our order, and our food was delivered to our table by the waiter who was one the phone at the same time, not exactly great service. BUT the food was absolutely fantastic, we both had thali's and they had a great range of really authentic tasting dishes and very ample portions. Would happily return any day for the food.
I have lived in Walthamstow for 3 years and Priya Maamalas has always been my take away of choice. However last night it was really disappointing and I will not be ordering from then again. The Palak Paneer was clearly tinned spinach and was watery and tasteless and the Dahl looked to have baked beans in it! Not the delicious food I have had from them in the past.
In fact so much so that the menu could do with a little explanation for those of us more used to the standard issue Northen ibdian style curry house. The food was very good, the décor unimpressive and the staff friendly but pretty useless. I'd say that it has the makings of something quite special in terms of the food but they need to get the restaurant inspector in to sort out the business side of things. Try the Kotthu Roti for something that I haven't seen anywhere else in the UK.
