The steak sandwich is no longer really a sandwich. It began in this way, but a long time ago Al served such a big steak that it was easier to eat from himself than between the slices of bread to sandwich. You still get the grilled sourdough bread, and each table has a glass of Jif peanut butter and orange jam to enjoy with it.
As you mentioned, you get exactly what you see here. It may not be a Michelin-rated restaurant, but that’s actually a positive thing. We were truly satisfied after devouring burgers, pasta, and beer. We even tipped our server a bit more for their friendliness, especially considering the wine enthusiasts they probably have to deal with!
Al the Wop’s isn't known for its grilled steaks or its glasses sourced from Safeway's Jif. There must be something else that attracts people to this off-the-beaten-path delta spot.
The new owners are hard at work cleaning and getting ready to reopen in mid-February 2021. They assure us that they will maintain everything “just as it was before, but cleaner.” I can’t wait to return!
