Big Mama's Soul Food - Waldorf

Thank you, Brian, for the fantastic lunch today! I ordered the vegan steak and cheese, and he used some incredible vegan cheese (trust me, I'm not vegan because I love cheese!). The "meat" was flavorful, and the sandwich was loaded with veggies. But let me tell you—make sure to grab some fries from this place. They didn't even make it out of the parking lot; they were that good. They were perfectly crispy with just the right amount of salt. No sauce needed! I can't wait to come back and try more!

I frequently visit Big Mama's, and I can honestly say they are wonderful people. Their henny wings, bourbon cornbread, yams, and collard greens are my absolute favorites—definitely worth trying. However, I feel like some reviewers here are being a bit harsh. We need to stop comparing Black-owned soul food restaurants to those that don’t focus on this cuisine. Whenever I place an order, they always communicate that it will be ready in 20-25 minutes and remind you to call if you're picking up and can’t park directly in front. So, who would wait an hour without checking on their order and expect their food, like fish, to still be crispy? It sounds like some people are just looking for reasons to complain. In my opinion, this is the best soul food I’ve found in Maryland. They don't use canned ingredients, and while the dishes may not taste exactly the same every time, the subtle variations are a testament to the freshness of their food.

Absolutely worth every penny! For one of my meals, I opted for two pieces of smothered chicken instead of the standard one, but honestly, one is more than enough! The crocker was incredible as well. This will definitely be my new go-to spot!

The interior is quite lovely, and the menu offers more choices than I anticipated. There are plenty of comfortable seats to relax in while we waited for our food. I ordered a black bean burger and fries, and it was delicious. I’m looking forward to bringing my husband here for a date soon!

I found the sandwich and sweet potato fries to be extremely tasty. At lunchtime, these were surprisingly my only vegan option, as there weren’t many choices available. Nevertheless, the sandwich and fries were satisfying enough, and I hope the dinner menu offers a wider selection, as I would love to come back and explore all the vegan options. The service was also commendable. The young woman who waited on me was very friendly, frequently checking in to see if I needed anything, offering a complimentary cup of water, and inquiring about my meal. She greeted me warmly when I arrived, which I always appreciate. Good food and excellent customer service are great reasons to support a restaurant, and I certainly plan to return!
