A great option for tasteful Thai food. many vegan lunch and dinner options. I love mainly their raw chocolate cake! in the food court in parker ranch shopping center is a filiale of this restaurant in waimea.
Located in the food court of the Parker Ranch shopping center, this restaurant is a favorite spot for us and we frequent it often.
Walking up to this little stand in Waikoloa, I noticed a Happy Cow sticker on the window. Ok, can't be too bad, right Well... I wish I would have actually CHECKED the review before ordering. Now, this place boasts Organic, GMO Free, and Gluten-Free, which I appreciate. They share an outdoor space with a Mexican stand all the tables and folding chairs are in between the two kitchens in a little complex with a grocery store, several restaurants, and various local businesses. Not exactly a fine dining. There's no table service, no checking in on how your meal is, etc. Little overhead, yet most dishes were $15+. And you still order at the window and wait at a table. I love some Thai food I frequent a great place in Kona and I haven't met too much Thai food that I don't enjoy to some extent. I ordered the Pad See Ewww, one of my recent favorites. I expected soft chewy noodles, slightly darkened from soy sauce, lightly fried, and veggies. I thought that's the standard. What was delivered was apparently a gluten-free, overcooked noodle. No saute, no coating in sauce, no flavor whatsoever. It was served swimming in some sort of sauce that was really unfamiliar. The noodles were a mess. I couldn't even get one to stay on my fork without the balance of a gymnast. I couldn't roll them onto my fork cause they just started falling apart. I couldn't jab them onto my fork because they split. After a few minutes, I had a bowl of noodle bits and a whole lot of frustration. I brought the dish back to the counter and told them I'd never had Pad See Ew like this. No response. I asked if they thought the noodles acted like this because they were gluten-free. They agreed. I told them I'd never had this much trouble eating a dish. They shrugged. I ended up just giving them back the dish, which they accepted without any initial compensation. Remembering the Happy Cow sticker in their window, I decided to check out the reviews. There was ONE review and it was TWO stars. That's no "Excellent Reviews on Happy Cow I decided to ask them about the sticker. They said the owner put it up there, they didn't know about it. But then one of the gentlemen said his SISTER was the owner. He didn't know where the sticker came from. He then asked me if I wanted anything else. I told him I was not paying for more, especially since I hadn't even been able to eat the meal I paid for. Now here's the one plus he refunded my money. That's it. Don't waste your time or money here.
Odd that this place has a HappyCow sticker with zero reviews until this one. The second star is for being vegan friendly. Otherwise this restaurant was a big disappointment. The pad see ew tasted nothing like any other I have had. The taste was OK but it was a soupy sauce with little flavor. The light portion of broccoli did not seem fresh. If it was good, I could have been OK with the sit-down price for quick serve food. The mediocre quality makes the food very overpriced.
