I had not been to The Dipper in quite some time. I needed a drink and a snack so I picked up a sweet tea and some gems. It tasted like the gems were not seasoned (maybe normal? ; At home they got a little ketchup and all was well. Tea was great. I got some chocolate milkshakes for the teens and they enjoyed those.
Extraordinarily cheap ice cream that tastes great. If I lived here, this would be the place I went to for ice cream every time.
It's a generational landmark. The food is good, the people are nice, this is basically what a hamburger should be. People don't really understand, hamburgers are American street food. And this is what it's supposed to be like. It isn't supposed to be a steak, it isn't supposed to be 2 lbs. It's supposed to be this. I was coming here in high school, I go there now, mostly with my mom. She loves it. It's part of the people, part of the folk stories. You'd be surprised how many little family stories people have that involve on their way to the Big Dipper, or something taking place there. And it's one of the big three places, The old starlight drive places: The Big Dipper, moonlight BBQ, starlight Drive-In (where Kroger's is, it used to be the local Drive-In). Point is the food is really good, and the restaurant is part of the community, part of the people.
Ordered cheese burgers and got down the road from there drive thru just to find out I got 2 fish sandwiches, took them back and was cused by the manager. My 40 year support has ended and will never be back.
