We did have to wait a while for our bill at the end, but we had a good time. We sat on the rooftop, the weather was perfect, and the view was pretty cool. My wife and I chose The Elderwood to celebrate our second anniversary and it was a wonderful place to do so. Also, the atmosphere was beautiful.
I arrived on time for my reservation and was kindly greeted at the front of the restaurant. The inside setting was beautiful and elegant. I was seated outside in a well-shaded area with evaporative coolers. I ordered the shrimp tacos, French toast, and espresso. Everything we had was exceptional. The shrimp were large and each taco had four of them, with just a hint of heat. The jalapeno sauce added a nice touch. The French toast was delicious, with a crunchy texture from the corn flakes. The espresso had a bold flavor. The servers were very attentive. Payment was easily made through a QR code.
EXCEPTIONAL Food!! It was The Best in Visalia-Hands Down!!! Atmosphere, Friendly Waitress with GREAT Recommendations... The View was KILLER!! If you want an experience that is like No Place Else-The Elderwood is the place to Go!.
Be prepared to wait, being a Friday night it took 25-30 minutes for anything to arrive or have anyone come to our table. Drinks were good (darling watermelon sugar). The menu is very limited. The spicy shrimp was great as an appetizer/starter. When itcame time for our entrées, we had to wait a while for our food and our check. The filet was flavorful made medium rare it wasmelting with each bite, so good! Now the summer pasta was one of the saltiest I?ve ever had, I added chicken since it does notcome with any protein, I could not eat it!! The saltiness overpowered everything. The pasta was not Al dente, it was hard tochew. Not sure if they were short staffed, but no one came to see how we were doing until it we wanted to leave and by then thefood was cold. Really nice view, even with a wobbly, uneven table. Surprised since i have heard really great things about it.
I absolutely loved the attention to detail as soon as I walked into the restaurant. The crown molding and elevator gave off a Great Gatsby vibe, and there was not a single boring corner in sight. The outdoor seating area was spacious and beautiful, but the tables could use some rearranging to avoid having one party facing the sun for the entire meal. Despite that, the food was really good and the portions were generous. I do wish the dessert menu offered a wider variety of options, but I thoroughly enjoyed the moist carrot cake with visible nuts in it. I highly recommend trying their 48-hour soy sugar-cured pork belly - it was amazing, with the fat melting in your mouth and a delicious sweet and savory flavor. The slaw paired perfectly with it, creating a unique and delicious dish I had never experienced before. The drinks had a good taste, but be warned they can pack a little punch. Personally, I didn't mind. This restaurant is a great spot to enjoy a sunset while dining.
