AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS DRINKS. We tried the seasonal mojito and caipirinha (amazing drink). I recommend the beef empanadas, they go well with drinks. We were also able to try conch fritters which i was pretty curious about. We arrived right as they opened for an early dinner which I think was the perfect time since the space is small and undoubtably fills up fast. The staff was incredibly friendly and full of suggestions if you're not sure what to order. I loved this place.
As a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, Mojito Cafe holds a special place in my heart. My boyfriend and I dined there last month to celebrate our anniversary, and I was thrilled that they were open. In previous years, they've operated on a seasonal basis, making it tricky for us to visit during our trips. This visit was particularly nostalgic and meaningful for me. **Cons:** - The restaurant is quite small. Even before the pandemic, seating could be a bit of a challenge (but trust me, it’s worth the wait). Since it was the end of January, we ended up waiting at the Subway next door until a table was available, as it was cold and snowy outside. While they don’t take reservations, I highly recommend calling ahead. - My pernil was a bit too salty for my taste. It wasn't overwhelming, but it didn’t quite balance with the rice and green beans. - I adore empanadas, and the beef empanada was fantastic. However, the other two I ordered were encased in a flaky pastry crust, which made the chorizo filling dry and muted in flavor. I’m not sure if they had run out of the traditional empanada dough since we were the last guests seated for the evening, or if this was the standard preparation for the chorizo option. **Pros:** - COVID protocols were well-implemented, and because of the restaurant's size, you can easily see the chefs preparing the food. - You absolutely have to try a mojito—they're delicious! - Great value! The portion sizes are always generous, and I've never left feeling disappointed or without leftovers. - This was my first experience with the maduro pork bites, and they were a delightful mix of savory and sweet. The red chimichurri sauce was my personal favorite. - The taste! Their sandwiches, vegetables, and sides are consistently impressive. The only thing I can’t comment on is dessert, as I’m usually too full to order any. Overall, this small business is a true gem, and I assure you, you won’t regret a visit!
