Then I ordered some fried prawns (gambas à l'ajillo) and they brought me those kind of frozen shrimp that does not taste like anything and it feels like you are schewing rubber. At that point i was making an effort to eat it but they were so bad that i could not. When the waiter came he asked how they were and so, in a still nice way, we explained that we didn't like them...he just shooke his shoulders as if he did not understand. Then we asked for lamb chops. So dry! Very unpleasant. The roasted potatoes were not good, as well. How can you go wrong with frozen potatoes! They did, And not well seasoned. My biggets regret in my stay in Vienna! And we paid a lot for it. Better served in McDonalds or in any street kiosk. Dont go there!
The space is not unpleasant but the food is the worst I've ever eaten so far. I ordered a fried prawns and served me the worst frozen shrimps with rubber texture that I eat so far, and the lamb chops were dry and barely seasoned. A place to forget.
A lovely place, only visited once but would recommend it. We did wait a little while for our food to arrive and overheard other customers asking / questioning the waiter about the waiting time. However, our meal was delicious and a good size (seafood paella and octopus with parsley potatoes) and we heard other customers expressing positive comments about their meals.Clientele from various backgrounds. Staff friendly and efficient. The waiter got our drink order wrong but did change it upon request without making it an issue. Worth a visit.
The restaurant is just across the road from the Alma Hotel where we stayed. The cuisine is basically Spanish with Mexican additions. The restaurant specialises in seafood, especially octopus. We visited on a midweek evening in February; there was a warm and lively atmosphere; service was friendly and efficient and the meal was thoroughly enjoyable - had we stayed longer in Vienna we would certainly have returned to El Pulpo as we would very much have liked to sample some of the dishes that were being eaten by people on nearby tables!
We went to this restaurant when it was minus 5 outside and immediately felt the warmth. The seafood platter for 2 which i shared with my son as well as the octopus taken by my daughter and calamari by my wife were very well cooked and tender. The 1 litre house wine was fine as well. The waiter was very helpful and friendly.
