I visited one evening while I was in the city for work, expecting casual comfort food—which I did find!—but ended up having a fantastic meal and enjoying the kind of atmosphere you get when a restaurant is run by creative, talented, and passionate people just enjoying great food together. I ordered a bread plate, lasagna, and the roast pork. Portion sizes were generous but it was clear that everything belonged on the plate. The lasagna especially was the best I've ever had—it was as much a braised pork dish as it was a lasagna, and the tomato and bechamel sauces worked really well together. Roast pork was juicy, and the pickled squash and fresh vegetables really helped with contrasting textures and flavours. I hope to be back soon to see what Hank's is like in other seasons!
We love their new location. It's bigger, higher ceilings, and has an indoor restroom. The food is always amazing. We are never disappointed with their menu choices.
My partner and I came in to a fun filled kitchen/seating area for <15 people, and left with deliciously full bellies! Fine dining level of food, very casual-hang-out-with-your-friends-at-the-kitchen-island level of an evening. But those men served up some fantastic osso bucco, and gnocchi. Good size portions, delicous food, fun entertainment to watch the kitchen take selfies and videos of themselves while cooking. Be prepared to smell like smoke and yell a little to hear over the kitchen noise, but otherwise, worth the dining experience!
I just went to Victoria for the first time and looked at a lot of restaurant choices before choosing Hanks. My friends and I were thrilled we did! We shared the Today's Best Things, which consisted of a watermelon salad so could you could take a bath in it, the Duck Bolognese with homemade pasta, tender duck and an incredible sauce, Beets with dandilion greens. Omg. The flavors, the spice, perfection, and a steak that was perfection with a salad that I could eat, literally, every single day. Dessert was a cornbread cake with blueberries, piatachios, and some kind of cream cheesy whipped creamy pillow that sealed the deal. A+ 1000% reccommend, and we are so sad its a six hour trip to get back there! Tiny place, excellent service, cool, chill atmosphere. Thank you for the incredible meal!
LOVE the new Space (they moved about 15 meters north) Private tables but options to sit at the bar overlooking the sexy new kitchen and the artisan culinary operations and chat with the very friendly and knowledgable chefs Great locally sourced food Amazing Service Devon the manager is lovely! We had the chefs choice 5 course meal our waitress and the chefs made GF arrangements for me with no hassle and they have a Mayne Island Brewing Brew on Tap! We recommend HANK'S for a special night out or to make it your weekly local hangout!
