Music was too loud to enjoy conversation. Tables has some sticky wax and was difficult to put hands on the table. But4 stars for food taste and service
Although the cashew chicken korma was tasty, the naan bread was either way overcooked and crispy or was stale. I love fresh naan as it compliments curry beautifully when done right. It was also my first time trying the mango chutney and kheer. The mangochutney was extremely vinegary; it's all I tasted. I couldn't eat more than one bite from it. If this is how chutney is supposedto taste, then please ignore this. The kheer, however, was quite pleasant and delicious
We were visiting Victoria and this restaurant was across the street. My husband is Indian and it was his birthday. When we walked in most of the customers were Indian which my husband took as a good sign. I knew it had pretty good TA reviews and saw that they would adjust the spice level which I took as a very good sign for me. Good service. Tasty naan. We both enjoyed it. If we were able to share dishes this place would have been cheap. Since I am a spice wimp, we each ordered a dish and had lots leftover. And even though I didn't finish my dinner, I was not about to skip gulab jamon (dessert) and you shouldn't either. Would be great for a group.
My partner and I popped into the Sizzling Tandoor restaurant just after 5pm and managed to get in and served before the place got busy. The staff serving were polite and quick to get our drinks out to us. Our order for food was taken and on our table before we knew it, even though the place had really started to fill. The food was great and so very tasty. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Victoria and looking for great Indian food.
I have been to both the Uptown and downtown locations many times, out of convenience or with family. I have been disappointed every time. The spicing is simplistic and bland, and the curry is lacking in richness. On my most recent - and certainly the last visit - I ordered the okra, which was so oily and odd in both texture and flavour (similar to bland western chili), that I sent it back. The server was polite and kindly replaced my dish with another, but i couldn't shake the fact that this was the only time in my life that I have sent something back because it was inedible. It was an uncomfortable experience.
