Il Capitano is quit small place in Viareggio near to boat harbour. The place is a bit different (in good way from tipical italian place i would say it has more style ! We looked for the place to have a nice lunch, we made reservation thru the fork. We drink some prosecco and also water (you need to drink if outside is 32 . From the menu we find one of my favourite Acchiuge alla Viareggina (marinated anjovis with marinated red onion was very good but maybe the portion was too big and id like to have the structure of the fish a bit less marinated. Also we hade spaghetti Vongole, very nice dish. And Fritto misto del Capitano what can i say i think one of the best fritto mistos i haved tried, why there was minimum 10 different fishes and it looks and tastes fresh ! Service was excellent, he came already with bottle of prosecco and fill up the glasses whithout big seremony I recommend, they have small terass and also tables inside (there was too cold
I absolutely loved the food! The restaurant is in the port and not on the promenade but this is great, as the area is relatively quiet and the food is totally worth the extra 15 min walk. The seafood salad, the seafood spaghetti and the tuna steak were all absolutely delicious. The chef prepared a great penne with tomato sauce for my 5 years old even though was not on the menu. The service was really good, friendly and with great recommendations around wine and dishes. The Vermentino was great. Menu was in English too and the staff spoke it really well. Lots of locals were coming throughout the evening. The prices were very fair and I think it was a great find! Will definitely be back.
We visited this restaurant on the recommendation of an Italian work colleague and were not disappointed. Tommaso in the front of house proved to be an excellent host, taking great time to explain the menu to us and providing some excellent recommendations. I had the fish stew (Cacciucco) which is a speciality of this specific area and my partner had the salt baked cod. Both dishes were really excellent. We just had a lovely authentic Tuscan dining experience the welcome and service, the ambience, the food and the wine all led to a great night out.. Yes it is away from the very commercial Viareggio beach front but well worth the walk over the bridge into the older part of town. And, as a bonus, you get get 20% off if you book through The Fork!
I had an amazing dinner here. The fish dishes was amazing and the atmosphere was very nice I highly recommend this place
