There's nothing fancy about this bar/restaurant, locals pop in for a glass of wine and a snack, larger groups arrive for a family dinner. Tablecloths are paper, and the waiter probably isn't silver service trained, but the service is prompt and friendly. We visited twice, we had pizzas the first time, they were excellent. There is a proper pizza oven in one corner of the restaurant, they're out of there and on your table in seconds. Second visit we had grilled chicken, large portions, and a lovely fresh salad (mention beforehand if you don't want lots of olive oil on it) House wine is 6 Euros a bottle, I can't vouch for the red but the white is absolutely fine. We drove all over Portugal on this trip, and it included a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant in Braganca. I can honestly say Don Augusto is an unpretentious gem.
This is a typical everyday restaurant. The service is correct and nice, the food is simple but honest. It is worth a visit but not for a special occasion. They have a wood oven and make pizzas. I did not try them so I cannot rate how good they are, but I expect they will be nice in a portuguese-style fashion.
The food is good but rest of the service was poor. The servants were nice and efficient but the dishes were not clean and we had to request a replacement and same happened to the glasses. The coffee was bad.
This place became our regular haunt during a four week stay in Portugal, the food is extremely nice and fantastic value for money. Lovely steaks, amazing pizza from a proper wood oven. Lots of local foods. This isn't fine dining but its very very hearty dining. There are a couple of English menus hiding somewhere the owner speaks no English but that's not a problem; sign language and good humor will get you sorted. I cant rate this spot highly enough as a place to eat like locals do. We cant wait to return again
