Our daughter had been evacuated twice due to forest fires. We had the buffet and really enjoyed it. The food was hot the selection was excellent and the staff very good. We do like the fact that the food is fresh and hot. Will definitely be back again and again. And, they gave us a 20% discount because our daughter was still evacuated and we had been evacuated for a short time in Monte Lake. They were very understanding.
My husband and I went to Royal Garden last Wednesday night because we had no desire to cook and wanted something fast and delicious so we decided to try out Royal Garden because my parents had raved about it. The restaurant is quite large so we did not have to wait for a table and the interior design doesn´t look like the typical `Chinese or Asian restaurant´ but more modern. Even the bar was very urban with clean lines, back-lit with subtle blue/violet neon. After we were seated, our server came to take our orders. He was very friendly and even recommended that we wait a bit if we were going to opt for the buffet (which we were) because a huge group of people were currently there and the buffet was going to be refreshed after. I ordered a glass of the local house wine (Mission Ridge) and my husband ordered an Okanagan Springs 1516. The buffet was fantastic! There was so much to choose from but everything tasted fresh. All the `classics´ were there - sweet and sour pork, chow mein, etc. but I especially loved the mussels in a spicy, asian sauce which is something I don´t usually find in an Asian buffet. We really enjoyed the food!
We went for the smorg. it was incredible -- full salad bar and desert bar on top of the amazing chinese food.
WE had been touring around and were having difficulty deciding where to have lunch. This place looked new from the outside and we decided to at least go in and look at was on offer. In fairness, we generally try to stay away from Chinese Buffett restaurants which do not usually provide great food experiences. On our way in to inspect the Buffett, three older women waiting for their driver sang the praises of the food. We took their word, and without much further debate, decided to eat here. The women were wrong! Although it was just after 1PM, the buffett was tired. The potstickers were shrivelled and the won ton soup was watery and short of won tons. The noodle dishes had been well picked over and not replenished. The food was bland. The best parts were the honey garlic and sweet and sour ribs. There was a large variety of choice, not all of which we tried, but we were very unimpressed with those we did. WE have long had a name for mediocre Chinese Food Buffets; we say that they produce Medicine Hat Greyhound Bus Depot Chinese Food. This one qualifies.
