It was her first time having Peruvian food and I was hoping this would be a good experience for her. Oh, yeah, by the way: I'm born and raised in Peru.I decided to order a 'ceviche', a 'shrimp causa' and a 'papa a la huancaina'. We also had pisco sours. My opinion: it was a very good approximation to 'the real thing'. I know getting 'aji amarillo' must be difficult in Montreal (as it is impossible in Vermont) so what I'm saying is that that particular spiciness from 'aji amarillo' (which is the basis of many peruvian dishes) was missing. Knowing that I still think they do a great job with the food. The pisco sour was OK - just OK. But, again, I miss pisco sour so I enjoyed it very much (had two actually. Her opinion: It was great, she liked it very much, specially the 'papa a la huancaina'. She actually added some 'huacatay' (the spicy pepper sauce they offer) to her meal. She also enjoyed very much the Pisco Sour.Definitely will go back next time I'm in Montreal to try: 'Lomo saltado' and 'Arroz con Mariscos'.By the way - the service was very good. Our server - a young lady - was very courteous and friendly. And the restaurant 'vibe' (music, decoration, etc.) was just like any restaurant in deep Cusco, Ayacucho, Cajamarca or even Lima (I'm referring to the 'old school' ones, not those fancy over expensive ones that are every where now with their 'petit cuisine' portions).
From the outside, looks like a run of the mill family restaurant, but instead is great peruvian. Great flavours, variety, and drinks
Good, nice and dirty cheap. Can't go wrong with the "Chupe de Camarones" soup and the "Ceviche". The portions are well served so don't try to order too much. However, the restaurant lacks abit of space and taste in its decoration.
Resto tres populaire, lorsqu'on a envie d'etre depaysé. Réservé!
We were here just yesterday! I waited until this morning to see how the cerviche mixto would act with my body... so far so good! For that 3/5 :DOn a more serious tone, this little Peruvian cuisine joint on the corner of Wellington and 2nd ave in Verdun: nice modest decor, love the table cloths, you got the music going on and the menu prices are reasonable. The Pisco sour is.... sour :DThe regular size plates have generous portions. A lot of customers left with doggy bags (or containers, in this case). The Food plus the ambiance gives it 1 more point = 4/5Why not 5/5? The guy waiting the tables, taking of seating, taking or the bills was alone on the floor for 30 people on 10 different tables. He was a-hella good but there's so much 1 person can do. So older lady from the kitchen, came up front and help but I caught older lady getting out of the bathroom while I was getting in, and she didn't wash her hands. That's the first half-point! Second half point is for the easy-recognizable locals that would come in, not wait to be seated, dressed trashy with Tim Horton's iced cappuccino in hand. For the 2 sets of different people, both had loud ringers on their cells. But that it is not the restaurant's fault - >I will go back to try other plates! It is not Sol y Mar but it is worth going.
