Gran Café del Portal - Veracruz

Great old traditional restaurant. Wow... love it. I just tried a coffee, but it was great. The staff was super friendly and fast. We sat inside, but there are also places to sit and eat. I can get this restaurant back to Eveyone who visits the old Veracruz.

Tradition is what you will find here... Good option to have some excellent coffee or something more...

One of the best coffee spots in Veracruz. I asked myself to a taxi driver where locals usually drink coffee and he sent me to this beautiful place. You have the famous and traditional Cafe Lechero, which basically serves coffee extract with lots of milk in a certain way to create a certain frothy consistency, although it is quite good, I am more in simple coffee (Americano) that I recommend if you want to taste the real coffee from Veracruz. You have some vegetarian options on the menu (the picadas for example) that you can turn into vegan, but ask the waiter to remove the cheese and sour cream in advance. Also recommend the Bomba, which is cut sweet bread in half, and they put cream and some mixed berries, it is a little sweet but with a coffee (American) is the perfect combination. You can also go after the coffee if you want to take it to the Zocalo, the weekends at night is a really nice place to stop by. On Saturday night it is crowded (which is why I asked my coffee to go). Prices are acceptable, the service is good (if there are many people, expect that there is a little slow, but it is understandable. Also sometimes there are people who play music that have a really good mood in the area while you drink your coffee and have a relaxing time.

The best place to enjoy your Café Lechero, a true classic of the city. For breakfast I recommend the huevos tirados, and for dinner if you really hungry the tamal azteca a delicious other type of tamal, for dessert the conchas con nata are delicious and so is their champolas, a traditional guana shake that is excellent.

Not the cheapest place to eat, but this is a very nice restaurant. The Café Lechero is tasty with great presentation and the food is top notch.
