Prime Steakhouse - Ventura

I can't recommend this restaurant only because it was SO noisy. We had to yell. Plus when you first walk in, it has a musty odor.

Second time dining here and probably last time. This time the salad was good, but our steaks were not the same quality as before. Plus we asked for charred on the outside and medium rare on the inside like we always order our steak at other restaurants. This time the steak was burned and very bitter. In fact so bitter , we could still taste the bitter when we got home. They burned the steaks do much that the meat was very tough. We don't usually return food, but this time we should have. It really wasn't worth the tab for two. It included drinks, but it just wasn't that good. Sorry Prime we really wanted to like you.

LOUD! Unaccomodating. Mediocre food at steak house prices. There was a crowd waiting to get in, probably for the music. They probably should advertize themselves as a date night place with food. As a steak place--forget it. We were a large party of We asked for a quieter table, but they prefered that we leave so they could seat someone else. On a Saturday night, with no reservations anywhere else, we opted to stay. My scallop appetizer was like shoe leather and my prime rib just so-so. Others in our party had better luck with their appetizers. But it was too loud to carry on a conversation, so who knows. Creme Brulee desert with berries was reminiscent of cough syrup. I was embarrassed that I made the reservation.

Food and service were great. I think they have live music some nights, which seems strange for a place that otherwise has the ambience of an upscale steakhouse. I went on a Monday night, and there was no music, so it was fairly quiet. The regular menu has many appealing choices, but I went for the fixed price menu, which, unlike many fixed price menus, included several options for appetizers, salads, entrees, and sides. For my salad option, I selected a salad with mixed greens, pears, apples, and honey vinagrette dressing. The rest of the food was good, but this was the most memorable part of the meal for me one of the best salads I've ever had!

Simply said, our experience was FANTASTIC...the host owner was gracious upon our arrival, our waiter was professional, kind and accommodating, and the food was amazing and the mid-week special was terrific....probably the best service in Ventura!!!
