Lower your food expectations and enjoy the setting. It's not high cuisine, it's grub. Service was spotty but friendly. We watched a leopard walk along the river bank. The best restaurant location I have ever been to. Any issues with the food are completely eclipsed by the setting in my opinion.
Unbelievable views, food took alittle time to be prepared but the restuarant was at full capacity, waiter was nice and friendly, food was just as good as any other mugg and bean, the view is the cherry on the top of the cake, make the experience even more memorable
There is a Mug Been at the Lower Sabie Rest Camp just past the general store. They have a small coffee shop style area as well as a large outdoor restaurant area with seating overlooking the Lower Sabie River. Opening hours are 7am to 9pm daily. We visited this Mug Bean a couple times during our recent week at Kruger National Park. On the first occasion, we simply had double espressos along with sausage roll and beef mushroom pie at their small coffee shop. Espressos tasted fine and we found the light food orders to be better than expected. This is a good quick stop for take-away food and drinks. There are a few tables here as well. The larger restaurant area is just past the coffee order counter. Waitstaff will seat you, many tables have views of the river. Expect to see quite a lot of wildlife. We enjoyed late lunch here. Menu is quite varied, portions bigger than you'd expect and food quality pretty good. On the occasion, we had an avocado (guacamole) egg on toast as well as a Halloumi and tomato wrap. Ingredients were just fine and both orders filling and good. Same could be said about our fruit slush drink orders. Overall, quite happy with our two visits to Mug Bean at Lower Sabie Rest Camp. Expectations weren't high but they managed to surpass, resulting in good meal stops here. Will happily take a meal or two here next time we visit KNP in the future.
The Mugg Bean with the best views from the deck. We saw giraffes, Hippos, elephants while enjoying a tasty meal. This place gets busy so expect a wait to get a table. The staff working well in a very busy place. The egges where done just perfectly so well done chef. Not the quietest place in the Kruger but it has the food and coffee to justify the crowds.
