Maybe Zakkushi was out for revenge when I called and switched my reservation time forward 1 hour on a Friday night. We went there to celebrate my wife's final day at her job of 7 years, and were late because she had to finalize things at her office. Anyways, we get to Zakkushi and were seated quickly, and I appreciated their flexibility. We were told we only have 2 hours max. We ordered our 1st round about 10 minutes in. Food very slowly trickled to the table. What was frustrating is that it took one hour to make their Zakkushi special for our table, which is literally their restaurant's special... and it's 5 skewers. They asked if we wanted to do a second round order without fulfilling the first, which is pretty careless if you ask me. Server staff were nice and did apologize about that. I initially blamed the kitchen, but actually I really don't know who's fault it was. Maybe the server staff forgot to input our order to the kitchen? Who knows. We didn't have time for a 3rd round as our time was winding down. Regarding the food, all the options we tried were quite good, but portions are small. I'd like to see more innards on the menu, which would make this place a bit more like kushiyaki places in Shinjuku. Regarding ambiance, this place is spot on. In summary, it was a just okay experience, but I am willing to try again in the future.
Have been to the same Izakaya in Toronto for many times. First time visit this one in Vancouver. The atmosphere makes me feel like in Japan. Friendly service (well served by Takashi San through out the whole dinner), food standard was same as Toronto restaurant, like the charcoal grilled skewers. Right price for the food quality and service.
Expensive skewers but worth the money. The quality of the meat is excellent! The way they grill it keeps it very juicy, leaving a nice crust and grill taste. I recommend trying the chicken heart, beef miso, and any of the beef style skewers. What an excellent experience. The menu options are excellent. Great variety of Japanese small dishes, and sake.
Zakkushi is highly recommended by a local friend. We really likeliked the place and service is good. The food is really tasty. The skewer is a type of food/cooking that quite a few ethnic cuisine offers. when a restaurant or chief treat them with respect, you can tell. Zakkushi did a good job.
