I absolutely loved everything about this place. The sushi was perfect and the gyoza, which is made in house, was excellent. The restaurant has a very authentic Japanese atmosphere. I would definitely give this place a 5-star rating.
I had been wanting to try this restaurant for years and finally had the opportunity to do so! I was intrigued by the healthy concept and also appreciated the cozy and laid-back atmosphere of the eatery. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Despite its small size, we didn't have to wait for a table for three on a Monday night. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Sakura Blossom roll and vegan pumpkin pudding for dessert. The sushi was made with fresh ingredients and the brown rice had a great texture. The flavor of the special roll was well-balanced and interesting, without being too flashy. The pumpkin pudding was a unique and delicious dessert, with a natural earthy taste that was not too sweet, complemented by the brown sugar syrup. Although the green tea mochi ice cream was good, I would recommend the pudding as a must-try. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the generous portions. The dinner combo ordered by someone in my group offered a lot of high-quality food for $25, making it the best value option.
I am delighted that Shizen Ya has reopened on Broadway after closing their old location due to construction. The menu remains the same as before, with a special focus on vegan options. Our servers were knowledgeable about the ingredients and very attentive to our dietary needs. The avocado rolls were particularly tasty, with a nutty flavor from the brown rice. I enjoyed the spinach and kale gomae, as well as the lotus root salad. There is a wide variety of vegan options available, so you won't get bored with the choices. I appreciate that they accommodated my preference for avoiding fried foods cooked with animal ingredients, offering alternatives like boiled yam in sushi instead of tempura. Green tea and refills were included with our meal, which is a nice touch. The vegan desserts were also delicious and not overly rich.
Kid-friendliness: They happily accommodated our 1 year old with a high chair and plastic dishes and cutlery.
