Although the employees are usually not Japanese, they do a great job in recruiting the pig base I love. In Tokyo, people usually choose between the fish base broth known as to apply ≠wise (katsubushi) or the former, I always choose the pig variant.
We visit the city and I loved this place! It was not a wait for greeting let alone, the portion sizes were surprisingly filling, our waitress stayed on our water, and everything was fresh and hot. Everything we have! Will definitely be happy to bring our friend as soon as they are here.
When to lunch with staff. This is the nearest Ramenplatz in St. Paul's Hospital. Price is reasonable. Service is fast. And there are Sanitizers for every table. Not too full. Love her karaage
My sister and I actually went to the branch on Robson Street. I could not find this branch on Google Review, so I am writing a review on the profile of the Davie branch here. We came to Ramen Koika on Robson Street for lunch today. We were seated right away around 12:15pm. If we arrived later, we would have to wait for a while for sure. It was my sister's second time here and it was my first time here. She tried the Kyouka Tsukemen last time. She told me that the broth was very oily and asked me not to order that one. Then, I decided to order Sapporo Miso Ramen and she ordered Triple Black Garlic Ramen. We had been waiting for about 20 mins. We knew there were a few tables ahead of us and each table got 3, 4 or 6 customers who were waiting for ramen as well. Usually we do not need to wait for that long time for ramen. When the ramen arrived at our table, I emphasized to the server that it took really long. He apologized. When I looked at my bowl of Sapporo Miso Ramen, the miso broth was very watery. When I had a first sip of the broth, it was like a bowl of regular miso soup. It did not mix or blend well with the ramen. When I ate my first bite of ramen, it was just a taste of ramen. I couldn't taste the miso ramen as a whole. The presentation of this ramen was failed (if you see my photo that I posted here). My sister was lucky to order the Triple Black Garlic Ramen. It was okay, but not great. She ordered the lean cha-shu, but there was still fat. We had really lean cha-shu at other ramen restaurants. A customer who sat next to our table ordered a bowl of the King's Seafood Ramen (which is their signature dish). The presentation of this ramen did not look as great as the photo that was printed on an A-board outside the restaurant. However, the portion of the seafood was good in the bowl. I personally never tried this ramen, so I wouldn't comment any further. Overall, the restaurant was clean and spacious. Pricing was reasonable. The customer service was average. At least the server would apologize on the food that was coming out very late. Plus, they offered 20% discount on my bill. I really appreciate it. However, as a foodie I pay attention on the food and the quality. My bowl of ramen and my sister's did not taste great or they were not as outstanding as other ones that I tried in other ramen places in downtown. If I would like to eat ramen again, I would probably not come back to this one.
I went for the spicy ramen challenge. I asked the server about it but she didn’t really speak or understand English. It turns out it’s not really ramen. Just a giant bowl of cold noodles with spicy paste. I was given a ladle and a glove to mix everything. I would have preferred actual ramen with soup. Half the noodles, half the time would have been more appropriate.
