Maenam - Vancouver

Usually Thai restaurants cater to Canadian sensitivities, and the spicing is mild and non- invasive. Maenam is a welcome exception. The dishes are original, the tastes exquisite. If you want the best in Thai cuisine come here.

Went there and was impressed by a somewhat non-traditional but quite authentic Thai menu. I was not disappointed. We both had the Chef's tasting menu and found the variety and quality of the dishes outstanding. Particularly good were the entrees, a somewhat sweet ling cod, a rich and spicy green curry and a fabulous octopus salad. Service was attentive but not overbearing or pushy. We were told in detail what to expect in each dish, which was brought at just the right time. Dessert, a lime custard with gooseberries, was also excellent (though, truth be told, I'm not sure how "Thai" it really was). Prices were reasonable given the amount and quality of food. Highly recommended.

Found an ancient gift certificate from a Thai friend and sheepishly came early on this Saturday evening. Sat at the bar and had the chef's tasting menu. Wow! Great cocktails. Great service and astonishingly tasty food. And they honoured our seven year old GC! Tomorrow again??!

We arrived without a reservation & the lovely hostess had us seated in minutes even though the restaurant was pretty busy. We went with staff recommendations on the food & drinks & were very happy indeed. We shared the seafood curry & the tamarind fish, both were delicious & were nicely complemented with a lovely glass of white wine. Would definitely go back
