Helen’s Grill Restaurant is a restaurant that has been in operation for many years. Although the original owner has long since retired, it remains a family operation.<br/ <br/ The place has a 1950s retro decor and serves an unusual combination of American classics and Greek food. The ultimate fusion of this can be summed up in the lamb burger, which may well be one of the best hamburgers I have EVER had. The spices in the patty are about as close to perfection as you can get, and it comes with tzatziki sauce and feta cheese, and delightfully crispy fries; all in all a mindblowingly good meal! I also had creamed turkey soup, which was terrific.<br/ <br/ The only complaint is that this place is only open until 8 p.m.
Very enjoyable old school Vancouver greasy spoon diner. Old jukeboxes at each table add to the ambience. Granted we were there at a slow time but our server kicked ass. She whipped up a couple of amazing double Ceaser's with bacon garnish and if you read my reviews you know this is a big deal to me. I ordered traditional Eggs Benny. Hollandaise was good, muffins were crisp. The potatoe side was different, sliced disk shaped and deep fried, but not bad. Eggs were small though. As far as greasy spoons go, this place does it well.
Classic. I have been here twice for supper in the last year. The first time I had the steak special and my 10 yr old son had a burger, he said it is in the top 5 best burgers he has ever had... steak was fine. Second time was a couple months ago with wifey and son. He still says the burger is great. I can't remember what I had, or the wife, but it was all okay to good. Better than fast food, maybe a little more expensive- I'll go back again.
Classic Breakfast. Always meant to check this place out for breakfast because it looks so cool, but read mixed things about it. Finally tried it and was very happy with it. Classic bacon and eggs, perfectly done and served almost before I ordered it. Amazing. <br/ <br/ Home fries were very good and they do rye toast, which is nice. Coffee was decent and toast was actually toasted, which doesn't always happen. Only gripe would be the use of margarine rather than butter, but maybe I could have asked for butter.<br/ <br/ One thing you don't get much of in Vancouver is multiple toast choices like sourdough, bagel, pumpernickel, etc. Wonder why that is. <br/ <br/ Service was fantastic. Great lady who is efficient and charming and looks like she's been there a while. Really nice atmosphere, despite King Ed being torn up just at the moment.<br/ <br/ Haven't tried the other food, but if you want the basics, it's great here and with a great atmosphere.
