Black Angus Tavern Grille - Van Wert

I have nothing good to say on this review. Decided this would be a good place to eat before a show at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. No reservation despite me calling to reserve a table but at least we were able to be seated. Not sure that was a good thing. My silverware was disgusting. Some type of black sticky substance. No bread with our meals. Salad did not taste good. Forgot my shrimp cocktail. None of us liked our rice pilaf. My ribs were not good at all. Tough and not a good taste. At least the water tasted fine. If this is the best in Van Wert, I feel sorry for the people who live here.

No service. We were completely ignored at 7pm on a Thursday night. No staffing issues, just ignored.

We had a rehearsal party here and everything went perfect. From the initial phone call to us saying goodbye our experiences with the Black Angus were perfect. They're prices are affordable and the food was excellent. Thank you Rick and family for making my wedding party exactly what we wanted.

This is one of the BEST Steak houses around! I highly recommend this place. My husband got the sirloin and it was tender cooked to perfection! AWESOME Waitress, we had a large party she attended our every need!!! I highly recommend this place for date night!!!

We visited for dinner last night. Passing by on Route 30, searched for steak houses. Van Wert was a minor detour. Learned that it is an area that grows peonies, and looks like it had a great railroad history, train still goes right through town. We arrived with no reservation on a Saturday night at dinner time. They were busy, but got us right in. Free parking right out front along the street. Seemed to have many more local diners than transients like us. The lead server/hostess was very efficient, can do attitude. Helped direct the other servers. No one was kept waiting. Our server was Sara, and she was very kind, efficient. We enjoyed the atmosphere, felt almost like a supper club. They were quite busy, people must know the secret of this place. You could almost have a piano player in the corner and it would fit right in. Not a dress code kind of place, very informal, come as you are. Salad was ample, fresh. Ribeye was perfectly cooked, large, great flavor. The bar section offered basic drinks, beer on tap, wine, and mixed drinks, but mostly served beer. Restrooms very clean. Wife had sirloin, also very good. Baked potatoes or sweet potatoes after 4 pm no more sweet potato casserole). Cash or credit card. Efficient at bringing the bill settling payment. Saw several larger groups, seems they favor reservations for groups say bigger than 6. But this place would find a way to accommodate you either way. Magnificent statue of life sized Black Angus Cow inside the door, makes a great photo. Noted the town has some sort of open container zone downtown, including this place, where you can carry drinks outside. Seems common sense. They also used common sense about the whole mask scare thing, no one mandated anything. Would go back again!
