They often host some excellent local bands; we've had the pleasure of seeing Three Minute Warning perform a few times, and they are truly exceptional, along with several other talented acts. The beer is very reasonably priced, which is what you'd expect from a local spot, and the view outside is fantastic, overlooking Trevaunance Cove. I absolutely love this place; the atmosphere is unparalleled for me. The only downside is the steep walk back up Rocky Lane to our accommodation!
This is an absolutely fantastic place! I truly wish I had more positive adjectives to fully express how great it is! I sampled a few of the beers on offer—Trouble+Strife, Rebel 80, and Montol, for anyone who's curious—and all of them were exceptional. If there’s something I enjoy nearly as much as beer (aside from the peculiar hobby of badger baiting), it’s cheese. So, I decided to put them to the test by ordering their cheese platter, and to my delight, it was just as delicious! Anyone visiting the area should definitely stop by this pub. I haven't even touched on how visually appealing it is! During my visit, I joked that I saw the ghost of Rick Stein’s dog, Chalky, but I must admit that I have no idea what led me to think that! I assure you, I hadn’t had that much to drink! There must be a logical explanation for it.
The pub is quite popular—when I visited, their Sunday lunch was fully booked, as it's served from 12 to 2:30 PM. However, there’s no need to worry; the fantastic Lewsey Lou's is conveniently located across the street. The staff there will call out your receipt number, so you can grab a quick pint while waiting for your food. I had lunch there one weekday. The menu features standard pub fare, but the portions were generous and offered good value. The staff are mindful of dietary restrictions, so my gluten-free request was easily accommodated. I had a deliciously cooked burger—without the bun—served with a side salad that was more than enough for me to handle. My friend ordered a sausage sandwich which was highly praised. Since it was a special, it was only £5.95 and came with sausage in ciabatta, onion relish, chips, and salad—again, a large portion. On Sundays, there were leftover roast potatoes, vegetables, and meat available at the bar, though not enough for complete plates. From my limited sampling (beef, a bit of parsnip, and a roast potato), I’d say that the Sunday lunch definitely deserves a reservation! As a non-local, I probably won't return for about a year, but I will certainly make it a point to come back, explore more of the menu, and relax there after a day of boarding!
Lovely little pub and very nice rooms with fantastic views over the sea. The food is very nice too.
Eaten there twice recently, food is good, last meal tasted really good but felt a little ripped off, starter incomplete, belly pork could have been a more generous portion and partners desert was missing the rhubarb. Beer howvever was very good.
