I especially loved the bathroom. However, the only drawback was the mattress; it has definitely seen better days and needs to be replaced (it was clean, just worn out). On a positive note, there is a hairdryer available.
The hotel is quite old, and the rooms have poorly maintained sash windows that do little to block out noise. We were kept awake by the sound of the sleeper train engines all night and the loud announcements the next morning. The room itself was in a terrible condition, with peeling wallpaper and every piece of furniture chipped and falling apart. It felt stuffy and dark, almost like a sauna. The bed sheets had stains, and there was hair on the pillows, including the spare ones in the cupboard. The area by the floor next to the beds was very dusty, making me uncomfortable with the overall lack of cleanliness. There was an air conditioning unit directly next to the bed, which was covered in dust. The towel rail in the bathroom was scorching hot, making it unbearable to spend time in there since there was no way to turn it down or off. On the positive side, the location is fantastic, especially if you need access to the train station, and the shower was actually quite decent. However, I would definitely not recommend staying here.
This charming old-school hotel hasn’t been overly modernized, which adds to its character. While it shows some signs of age, it remains clean and comfortable. The staff are generally quite good, though there was one person who wasn't as helpful. Interestingly, you have to pay for breakfast at the reception desk (you can't have it charged to your room), and then receive a card to present to the breakfast staff. However, there’s no menu provided, and they don’t serve poached eggs, despite the manager’s insistence. My dinner at the restaurant was disappointing, but there are plenty of other dining options nearby. Overall, I would consider staying there again.
The Royal Highland Hotel is a delightful Victorian hotel located in the heart of Inverness. Its prime location next to the train station makes it convenient for exploring nearby shops, pubs, and restaurants on foot. Our room was immaculate, comfortable, and tastefully adorned in Victorian decor. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, always eager to help with any requests. We had a wonderful two-night stay that included a complimentary continental breakfast both mornings, along with a free dinner and cocktail one evening. The food was exceptional, with generous portion sizes. For those seeking a touch of old-world charm and outstanding service, I wholeheartedly recommend The Royal Highland Hotel for your visit to Inverness.
I stayed here a couple of nights ago while working in the area. The check-in staff were lovely and very helpful. However, be warned—there aren't many parking spaces available! The location is excellent, and I can't fault it. As for the rooms, my double room was basic but clean, of a decent size, and comfortable. Overall, the hotel has a charming, old-fashioned character and seems well-managed, although it feels a bit "tired" due to its age. I would definitely stay here again, but I think the prices are quite high for what you get. However, this issue isn't unique to this hotel; I feel that Inverness in general is overpriced. I've been fortunate enough to stay across Scotland for work, and I've never encountered hotel prices like those in Inverness.
