This was my first visit but my husband's eaten there a few times since they opened. He ordered a burger and salad, I had sliders and fries. The burgers were good but I wasn't thrilled with the fries, twice dipped maybe or time to change the oil perhaps. Our server was polite and the beer delicious. The food seemed a bit slow coming out of the kitchen, that being said there was a large group that was leaving shortly after we arrived so maybe the kitchen had gotten bit backed up. The windows that open to the outside really need a good vacuuming and cleaning, two thumbs down on that. Our meal with two beer, came to around $65. A bit pricey I thought but it is Main Street so it's probably on par with the rest of the eating establishments.
Markham Village was recommended for a place for dinner. The village is casual with several restaurants offering patio dining. I walked the street reviewing menus and offerings. I decided to try Liberty, which has limited offerings (burgers and wings). I ordered the Tuesday special burger and beer. The beer hit the spot. The burger and fries were tasty and worked as well. I ate on the patio with a couple other guests. Inside is small and a little cramped. Not inviting for eating, but OK for drinking. The waitress was talkative and helpful when I asked questions about the village. Prices are a little high, considering this is basic food, but the experience was enjoyable.
My wife and I gave this spot a try on a Friday night as the summer came to an end. A beautiful night and a good spot on the patio set us up for what we thought could be a great evening. The restaurant next door had some live music playing, and while we were 'behind ' the band, it was still nice to have some music during dinner. You would think that a place with Burgers and Wings in the title would be good at those things, but that was not the case on this night. My wife ordered the portobello and blue cheese burger and the mushroom was clearly dried out and burnt. Underneath the burger was much smaller than the advertised 8 ounces and greasy. I ordered wings done with a dry spice rub and the spices were fine, but the wings were tough and dry. They looked great very large wings, but it was like they were from a capon or old stewing hen it was very easy to stop eating them. The fresh cut fries were the lone good spot in the meal, as the onion rings were on the greasy side. We had a tough time ever seeing our server, and eventually we had to chase them down inside to settle our bill. And speaking of the bill, over $65 for dinner without alcohol tells you there are better values out there. In the end it was a miss, and most importantly, we won 't be back.
Should have known...empty resto at 1:00 PM Saturday. $50 for two burgers/fries 3.95 for rings, in the $50), two draught. Burger ok at best, Liberty Sauce is a mystery, added nothing other than a funny taste which made me wonder about the meat. I haven't hurled so rule out the meat. Good hand cut fries...saw the bags of YukonGolds downstairs...but not really special. Buns were cold- at least toast them a bit. Since we only eat in Markham once every 25 years or so, we won't be back. Spare yourself the disappointment and go to Harvey's.
First time we visited, we hit the water hoarding issue. We ordered 1 beer and 1 water. Beer and bottled water appeared, nothing said. As we looked over the menu, we noticed bottled water listed under the beverages section and thought, are they going to charge us for this bottle? We called over the waiter, who appeared to also be the manager, and asked. Yes, you will be charged for the water and no, we will not serve tap water. We let him know how inappropriate it is to not tell us this in advance. He started to explain how he has to make a profit and... give it up when the customer complains, he's not looking for an explanation about how you need to make a living. The food was quite good but the incident left a bad taste in my mouth. A second visit with friends we all enjoyed the food and nobody asked for water. In our case, we went back a second time. Lots of others do not return. You get to make a good impression just once. For the price of a bottle of water, this location is losing customers.
