Before the pandemic, this was one of the best Chinese restaurants in Tucson. The service was quick and efficient, and the food was excellent. Now, the restaurant has a more appealing atmosphere, and the quality of the food is still great.
I was pleasantly surprised! While the decor may be outdated and not trendy, the spicy soup, Mongolian beef, and cashew chicken were hits. Everything was fresh and made to order.
For the most part, it's a pretty standard Chinese place. The atmosphere is mostly typical of any Chinese place, along with the service, which gives a good amount of effort in making you feel like a welcome guest, even with potential miscommunications. I like Old Peking as they don’t rely on drenching their food in soy sauce in order to give it flavor like many Chinese places do. For instance, I had garlic green beans which received its flavor from the ample amount of diced garlic and onions. The portions are very generous and the prices are very good, allowing you to get a sit down experience at a fast-casual price I came for multiple visits time and had the water-boiled chicken dish and chicken feet from the Szechuan menu. These dishes were delicious, albeit very spicy which I don’t mind :P with a lot of seasoning, to a point that may be overwhelming. The dish was quite large, and while not impossible to eat the whole dish, it is certainly big enough to be shared. If you like spicy, soup based dishes, than you would enjoy this a lot!
Food was good. Better than most of what we've tried on the north side (we've been looking for a really good one). Hot and sour soup was really sweet and very oily (missed the mark on that one). My husband really liked the orange chicken. We mixed a noodle soup with the war wonton and it was good. They only do take out (which I wish we would've known before driving 45 mins to get there). I would go again and try different entrées. We spent almost $90... so I think it was a little pricey for Chinese food.
