The service is fantastic, the menu is always kept fresh, the wine selection is great...last time we were in we were served fresh figs from Chef Roland's garden. You just can't beat that! The fresh pizza is by far the best around!
I hosted a dinner to welcome our friends from Trail BC at the Illuminate Restorante in Tsawwassen , Delta. The service was ok and the Italian Food was also so so. Our friends from Trial loved the food but to me I have enjoyed better Italian Food served in the many good restaurants in Vancouver.
My daughter and her husband, took my husband and myself to Illuminate (our first visit) for my birthday. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us right to our table, and within seconds our server David appeared to ask us how we were doing. As they have been to Illuminate many times, my daughter suggested we try the Roasted Figs and Baked Bocconcini as starters. The four of us shared the two appetizers, along with an Australian Shiraz. The wine went very well with with the saltiness of the proscutto and the sweetness of the figs. My daughter ordered her favorite, the Veal, two of us ordered the Veal Scalllopini, and my husband ordered the Linguine Pescatore. We chatted while we waited for our entrees and in no time at all our meals arrived. Speaking for myself, it was one of the best Scalllopinis I've had. The presentation was great. The Scalllopini was draped across a combination of vegetables, Italian Rapa, peas, cabbage and potatoes. Normally my husband will finish my meal, but I wasn't sharing that night. My husband enjoyed his choice too. A nice selection of seafood, a mussel garnish along with prawns and clams, and not swimming in sauce; just the way he likes it. No complaints from my daughter and son-in-law either. I am sure she wouldn't have chosen Illuminate for my birthday if she wasn't already happy with the quality of the dishes. Thank you Chef for a very enjoyable evening.
I've eaten at Illuminate about 8-10 times in the past 8-10 years. Without exception, I've had great dinners there, time and time again. The menu has changed over the years, but also has maintained some of the classic favourites, e.g. Rack of Lamb. The various entrees always have a tasty fusion of sauces, spicing, and side dishes — you'll never get something as boring as meat, potatoes and a green vegetable. The kitchen is visible from most of the dining room, so there's always something interesting to watch. And a private room can handle about 12-16 people for something like a family birthday. Prices are a touch high, but I've always left with a satisfied belly!
