Spent three days in Tromso, and dined here twice...we couldn 't stay away! Amazing food and exceptional service. I would call it traditional fare with an artisanal flair. Right from the start: really good table water with fresh citrus hints, homemade bread and herbed butter. How can salad be THAT good? Parma ham and blue cheese salad Such fresh ingredients that pair wonderfully together. Don 't be deceived by the presentation, portion sizes are large. One salad is plenty to two to share. Entrees were all excellently prepared. We had risotto, beef bourguignon, mushroom pasta and spaghetti bolognese. All were wonderful and filling. We complemented our meals with the house wines. We aren 't wine snobs, but we enjoy a good grape. House white was organic French chardonnay and red was a lovely Italian, both only $12 US, that 's very inexpensive compared to our US prices. This keep the cost down and allows a splurge on the amazing dessert and coffee. The homemade chocolate cake was the BEST I have ever tasted. Dense, moist and not to sweet. Start to finish, an amazing experience, all surrounded by beautiful art and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Absolutely make a reservation! There are only six tables, with seating for about 20. They seem to take reservations seriously, and won 't try to squeeze in someone from off the street if they have reserved the table. For non Norwegians, no worries you will be welcomed and comfortable. Reservations (phone call), menu and service all in English. This is a MUST stop whenever you find yourself in Tromso!
A lovely and charming little cafe for a light meal in Tromso! We were looking for a late and light lunch before a long drive, and Art Cafe hit the spot perfectly. There are only a handful of tables, but they turned over regularly while we were there. Food is ordered at the bar, then brought to your table by the staff (in our case, just one woman working the front). The menu isn't terribly long, but what we had was all delicious. The tea was high quality, loose leaf tea, and the bread to start with was fantastic. The salad was definitely all fresh, and the goulash was a substantial portion, full of meat, and exactly what we needed on a chilly, rainy, January afternoon above the arctic circle. Prices are Norwegian, but actually pretty decent compared to the other places we ate in town.
Very good coffees, omelette is outstanding The service is slow, but the owner is very nice with his customers. Interesting place to see some Norwegian art for sale
Found this lovely little restaurant when we overslept and missed our hotel breakfast, what a great find! It has such a great feel and the service was great! We had fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade hot chocolate! The water was even amazing, much better than our water in the states! We had egg sandwich with bacon and the bacon and cheese omelet, both came with a lovely salad and fresh bread! From our table we could see the dessert trays go by... carrot cake, cheesecake and the most delicious looking layered chocolate cake! We still have 2 more days here in Tromsø, I might have to return just for the desserts! Highly recommended,
