Two of us are retired firefighters, one is an active firefighter, one owner of a financial business, and the last one is a software engineer. We are locals and have protected this bar several times, mainly due to live music. Last night at 8:30, we went to this crowded bar and got a drink. One of us danced on the dance floor and 3 of us stood at the edge of the dance floor and watched with a loudspeaker very close to our ears. A calender man in a black shirt without markings, who suggests that he works there, ran on us and started screaming something aggressive and throwing his arms around. We had just seen him with a beer in his hand, so he thought he was an aggressive drunk. Then we found out he told us to open a way behind us. We moved around a 3 walk between us and the others standing there. I told him to calm down. My husband told him to drink his beer. One minute later, a young man (Bouncer) approached us and asked if we had a problem. We said no and the Bouncer seemed fine where we stood and left. More people moved to the place where we were standing and nothing was said to them. Five minutes later, the bald man returned with a police officer and asked us to step outside. This bald man now identified himself as owner. His behavior was loud and aggressive, even in front of the 4 police who reacted. The police took all the licenses and ran them. Then we were told that we were drunk and can never go back to Ka'Tiki. The officer even apologised to us and said he could see what was going on, but since it was private property, his hands were bound. Even the couple that wasn't busy with the discussion was overtaken. What an unheard reaction to pay customers because we were in the wrong place. How about some ropes or shields to display this? How about people who wear this stuff that they know who they're talking to? How about a little respect if you approach the males? How about your staff not drinking in service? There are so many other bars on the beach with live music where we can spend our money. We can't go back there, but not now if we could. I highly recommend that everyone who reads this steer about this place. The employee just wanted someone to fight. The police were unhappy and a waste of resources. If you want to make a fun diving bar with live music, go to the Drunken Clam. Stay far away from this facility. Update: General Manager reached me and, after checking the videos of the event, realized that his employee was addressed and that this was an overreaction by his employee. He'll reverse the Trespass order and apologize.
I visited the Ka'tiki for the first time on 3/6/23 and from the beginning my experience was not pleasant. I was greeted by a blond bartender who rolled her eyes on me and gave me an attitude when I asked for a separate glass of ice with wine, as I would like to water my wine down to get drunk as I drove. My friend and I ordered food. I ordered a fish sandwich and ordered a chicken sandwich. My food came into the bar and I took it up and ate my sandwich. My friends food never came out so we asked a man with bright colored hair and facial hair if he could check it. That was about 45 minutes later, and the man came to us and said the female bartender never passed his order so that he did. He's got his chicken sandwich sometime. Here's the kicker... I parked my CRV in one of the rooms of the bar. I didn't pay much attention to my car. I went to the bar, played a pool, talked to some people, etc. I go outside and sit at a table that speaks to some people from my hometown. They mention that a car was dragged. I look and there was a blue off-road car parked in my place. I didn't think of it until I looked back. The bar had dragged my car. I asked the man with the facial hair and bright colored hair why he did. He said he wanted to see if the owner was in the bar. Well, he doesn't have to ask much!!!! I drank in this place, ate her terrible beach dinner and was looking forward to hanging up and listening to the band and they dragged my car to the cost of $165.00. The review is one and I for one, a resident of St. Petersburg, will never return there. It is a bar opposite the beach. There are many bars facing the beach much more beautiful. I know this review won't hurt her business in any way because of the situation. I just had to share my experience. I hope you'll be better. Michele
