The menu offered a wide variety of delicious options. The patty melts were expertly grilled, the omelette was perfectly cooked, and the crispy hash browns were a nice touch. We will definitely be returning for another meal.
Located off the highway, Ms. Betty's is a charming diner that provides a refreshing alternative to the chain restaurants found at truck stops. The homestyle cooking is solid, with a focus on classics like fried chicken and catfish nibblets. Be sure to check the board for specials and save room for dessert, as they tend to sell out quickly. The blackberry cobbler is a standout. Specials offer extra sides for the same price as regular entrees, and there are plenty of side options to choose from. The restrooms are small but clean. The fried chicken is particularly tasty, although the catfish nibblets can be a bit rubbery. The staff is friendly and attentive. For those looking to explore further, there are also some charming antique shops in the nearby town.
Do not expect a dinner theater experience here! This is a cozy diner located on the main street. If you're looking for some delicious local food and friendly servers, definitely check this place out!
This diner is hard to find, the address on their business card should put them by the train tracks in the middle of town, but it's actually right next door to the Bryce Inn and across the street from the Exxon truck stop, closer to the expressway. We drove up and down Main Street, sure we were crazy till we stopped and asked a local for direction. SO glad we did, because this place fries a mean catfish! The whole town of Smith's Grove was like visiting an old friend- everywhere we went the people were gregarious, warm and welcoming- and stopping by Miss Betty's was like having that friend cook you your favorite dinner. The food was delicious, the service was phenomenal, and all I could think about as I was leaving was when I would be able to come back... and since I live in Chicago, that's quite a compliment. This serendipitous stop was a real treat, I look forward to making this a regular detour in my travels along I65.
