It was a busy Father's Day and I know the restaurant can get packed so I was anticipating long wait times to be serviced. Husband was satisfied with his Burrito El Mezon that looked so good. I ordered the Camarrones Al Mojo de Ajo (Garlic Shrimp) expecting a good amount of rice on my plate. Sadly, for $16.50, I got a plate that was 85% lettuce and 15% rice. The shrimp was so good, but just getting that much rice on the plate versus lettuce was extremely disappointing. Not only that, I asked a waiter for a side of rice. It never came. I was left only eating lettuce with queso blanco, a few pieces of shrimp and barely any rice. Service was chaotic on Father's Day, so, I totally understand! But the attentiveness was just not there. Thankfully I wasn't charged for an extra side of rice but, I left with sadness in my stomach. I'll leave it up to you to decide! I'll probably come back on at a different time when it's not so busy and won't order the garlic shrimp ever again.
Don’t go!!! Worst Food ever had! Steak and grilled chicken have Zero Taste. My son is allergic to peppers. He hassled for just meat n cheese in his quesadilla. He got everything. Then we asked the server if they could re do the order and they did then charged us for both meals after they took the other quesadilla without us getting an option to keep it. 90 dollars for 4 people!! My only review I’ve ever wrote and I’m 41
This place rocks. Food is always perfect and the staff are super attentive. The steak chimichangas are the best!!!
Update: and getting better all the time. Frequent Dining Favorite My wife and I love Mexican and Fresh Mex style foods. We have tried many of our local establishments over the years. And, many of them are good to great, while a few we gave up on with just a couple of visits, and another was a long time favorite that has given up food quality and consistency. NOT HERE! El Mezon has constantly improved their food, their service (though at times still a hit or miss), and their establishment. Two minor remodels and one major recently completed remodel have all gone a long way to continually grow their repeat customer base. There 's good reason they are first on most Mexican food restaurant lists... Delicious Food! Dine in, Carry out, Order ahead and (wait for it) DRIVE THRU...Yep! For the pepper heads in your group... Ask for a side of salsa picosa to mix in their table salsa or dip directly! YUMMY FLAVOR HEAT!! Vegetarian options: There 's a nice selection of vegetarian options on the menu ranging from tacos to burritos plus a couple of salads Parking: With the recent expansion of the building, indoor dining space and addition of outdoor dining space, the parking can be tight since the lot was originally spec 'ed to the size of the Hardee 's it used to be. But don 't let that stop you from enjoying some great Mexican food here! Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrances on both the North and South side of the building and into the front pergola covering.
Nice atmosphere for a smaller restaurant. The variety of menu options is outstanding. Much different than the usual St. Louis area Mexican restaurants. The food was great and the drinks were excellent.
