But then I heard they had re-opened under new ownership and got excited. But the pancakes are no where near as good or as big as they used to be. I used to get 2 pancakes that were bigger than the plate and could only eat half and took the rest home. They were by far the best pancakes ever. But the new pancakes taste no where near the same as the old, and are much smaller. This should not be called Sweet Sue's anymore at all. It is no where near the same as what the original was. Also I find it quite deceiving that Google has the reviews from the original Sweet Sue's in with the new. That is giving this new Sweet Sue's a much higher rating than it deserves in my opinion.
Cute and quaint with outdoor seating as well. The specialty teas are amazing! I am not sure if this is accurate but there is a floor manager or maybe owner or owners son that is all over the place. Tried to chat my wife and I up explaining the many changes made over the years. Honestly that had zero to do with my lunch or my review. Just wanted to make a note that maybe he shouldn't be customer facing. The curly hair n sandals w Brooklyn bro vibe was unkempt and unprofessional. My meal was the brisket sandwich. Tasted great and smelled so good cooking..was a great pairing with the garlic curly fries. All well until later that night. I spent the rest of my day with burping and heinous noxious smells escaping my mouth. I wish that was the least of my issues. My only meal was this that day. I spent my afternoon and night miserable. My advice....eat with caution.
Pleasant surprise addition to Phoenicia. Don’t know why I missed it but luckily found this cute cafe on the main retail strip in town. The coffee is locally roasted and worth the Java jolt. The veggie omelette and summer peach cobb salad was amazing. And pastries are a must. This will be my go to stop every time I am in the area.
Should change its name, this is a shadow of what Sweet Sues used to be. I had been going to sweet sues regularly for as far back as I remember. It never disappointed. Pancakes as big as your plate but still absolutely delicious, I’ve never had any that came close. French toast far and beyond anything I’d ever had before, big and fluffy and one encrusted with pecans or hazelnuts. I was devastated when Sweet Sues closed. And was so excited to learn it had reopened. But I’m sorry to say, this isn’t Sweet Sues. The menu lost all its interesting pancake choices that they used to have paintings of on the walls. Lost its gluten free pancake option. The legendary French toast doesn’t even appear on the menu. The pancakes aren’t Sweet Sues quality. They’re smaller and just missing that extra something that set them above all others. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a good pancake, but it’s not a legendary Sweet Sues pancake. Service was slow when I was there, it took just under an hour to get our food. Honestly that was a problem with the original Sweet Sues though, and I know it’s hard to get enough staff. Overall, if you hadn’t ever been to the old Sweet Sues, you’ll probably enjoy going here. They have good pancakes. Their eggs and potatoes look good. Their sandwiches are very small for the price, I would avoid them. But what bothers me is that the location is coasting off of a pancake reputation that it bought, rather than earned. I hope this is just the start for the new Sweet Sues and it will become more perfected over time.
Impromptu early lunch with a friend set on trying the “new” local, reopen ,new owner and new menu ..Sweet Sues. I was very hungry if not hangry after a tough morning. My friend was still full from breakfast but game for an adventure. The layout was quite different, from previous owners , as seating was more outside than in. There was A specific area with registers and happy staff to take your order. they do have table service I chose to wait for my friend for our choice of in or out. Meanwhile I ordered an omelet with mushrooms and cheese. I asked for sourdough bread specifically because it can be tolerable with a GF diet. I was told they had sourdough. I ordered a cappuccino. The cappuccino was delivered at the counter in an 8 ounce glass sans handle. It was very hot. I grabbed some napkins to wrap around the tasty and well made cappuccino. I had to side step over to the sugar and various milk offerings. To be noted there were no tea offerings , like black tea, available they offer Green tea with mint iced and various coffees Mexican sodas Finally leaving the lopsided table outside we opted for the very nice large tables with metal stools. I found the chilled free water dispenser, silverware and napkins. Getting settled my omelet arrived .. I was immediately disappointed. It was way over done and in puddles of grease. The bread may or may not have been sourdough but it was a Lower quality bread, heavy and not convincing as a sourdough. I couldn’t eat the omelet or the toast. I drank the coffee which was well made and tasty.. I need a handle on a hot drink unfortunate spills happened My friend thoroughly enjoyed her salad including spinach ,beet root ,Vidalia onions grilled, goat cheese and walnuts. Her salad was huge and lovely. The dressing was also to her liking maple syrup being an ingredient. As they are new and just getting started I paid for my bill and I didn’t want any replacements. They were very gracious and tried to meet where I was. The waitstaff did a good job.
