I'm always excited to try new dim sum places, but overall I was underwhelmed. I arrived late afternoon and filled out my menu/order form outside at the table they have set up. Headed in and turned in my order at the counter. Even at 3:30 on a weekday there was still a good selection left. There were a couple of people ahead of me, but the wait wasn't too long and there are chairs inside for you to sit. When my order was ready I went to the counter to pay. The person ahead of me paid with a credit card and the woman checking him out told him there was a discount for paying with cash. When it was my turn to pay, I handed over my cash but she didn't say anything about a discount or take anything off the bill. I was confused, but didn't bother to ask, since the food is priced very reasonably anyway. Maybe they add a credit card processing fee?My order:Two steamed bao (Char Sui and Peking Duck): The char sui filling was good, but there was too much bread to filling ratio. I didn't finish either of these.Har Gau: These were just all around unappealing. The shrimp had no flavor and the wrapper had a really unappetizing texture. Har Gau are one of my favorite dim sum items so this was really disappointing.Shu Mai: Fantastic! These are probably the best shu mai I've ever had (I'm not usually a huge fan of shu mai so I'm really glad I gave these a try). Flavorful and delicious.Ham Sui Gok: These were... ok. The exterior wasn't as crispy as I'm used to, and the filling lacked a little umph in the flavor department.Slice of chocolate strawberry cake: The cake and whipped topping were light and fluffy. I just wish there had been more strawberries in it.I will say this: the portions of each item were HUGE and the prices were more than fair for the quantity.
Hong Hong Bakery was a good take out Chinese Dim Sum restaurant. They also have a small sit-in location out side. The Dim Sums are very reasonably priced, much cheaper than at the restaurants. It is understandable because they do not have overheads in servers, busboys, or dishwashing, sitting places, tables&chairs, etc.The steamed char siu bao $2.15) is not very good, not tasty at all, and it is not of Chinese traditional cut-up BBQ pork. It's like pulled pork, destroying the traditions. Had very little BBQ meat in it. Order something else. The Ham Sui Goks $1.25) are very good, large, and very tasty. The price is outstanding. Everyone should order them, highly recommended. The egg custard tarts $2.80) are of poor quality, expensive, not very tasty, very eggie taste, not soft and fluffy as a traditional custard tart.
Best roasted duck and roasted pork in Carson area. They have bakery inside the restaurant too. I love their malasada donuts!
If you're on the hunt for a unique Chinese restaurant that combines Hawaiian flavors, then Hong Kong bakery is the spot for you. This bakery is a hidden gem in the heart of the city, offering some of the most delicious Manapua and dim sum you'll ever taste. The Manapua at Hong Kong bakery is simply mouth-watering. These steamed buns are filled with a variety of savory and sweet fillings, such as pork, chicken, and even taro. Each bun is soft and fluffy, and the fillings are cooked to perfection, making for an unforgettable dining experience. But that's not all – Hong Kong bakery also serves up a variety of dim sum, which is equally as delicious. Their har gow, sui mai, and cheong fun are all must-tries. Each dish is made with fresh ingredients and expertly cooked, making for an authentic and flavorful dining experience. The atmosphere at Hong Kong bakery is cozy and inviting, with friendly staff that make you feel right at home. The prices are also very reasonable, making it a great option for those on a budget.Overall, I would highly recommend Hong Kong bakery to anyone looking for a unique Chinese restaurant with Hawaiian flair. Their Manapua and dim sum are some of the best in town, and the friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices make for a truly enjoyable dining experience.
