The Stockyards Smokehouse & Larder

Stockyards has one of my fav burgers in Toronto. Flavorful and juicy. They also have a kickass fried chicken with a great hot sauce...comes with a ton of fries. I still haven't been able to try their BBQ ribs...one day!

My daughter introduced me to the great diner on St. Claire. Had fried chicken and waffles for the first time...it was really good. Fried chicken was nice and crispy and tasty. Staff were super friendly as well. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely visit again!

People under the impression that this is the best bbq spot in Toronto need to get out more. The place is tiny and popular with locals but its just okay. When we arrived there were 5 empty stools by the window but somehow we still waited 10 minutes to be seated. Finally got two stools in the front window squeezed among an employee on lunch and 2 other diners. We were given dirty/sticky paper brunch menus and two glasses of water. Then the waitress disappeared for 15 minutes. People who came in after us and were seated elsewhere had their orders taken, and so did customers ordering take out. We waited a long time. Then I think the employee sitting beside us overheard me telling my husband that I was annoyed and wanted to leave if the inattention went on much longer. So she disappeared to tell her coworkers they forgot about us and the waitress finally returned. After that the service imrpoved. Coffee and drinks came quickly. But why are they serving gingerale in bottles that are 237ml each? That's less than 1 cup of a beverage. We both ordered chicken and waffles from the brunch menu. This dish comes with two miniscule pieces of chicken. One wing and one thigh. It should be called chicken and waffle because it comes with one waffle. Both plates were SOAKED in a spicy sweet syrup. It would have been better on the side. I had to pick up my waffle with a fork and drain the stuff off of it before it turned into a totally soggy mess. Parts of the waffle that were not soaked in that sauce were good. Chicken was well cooked and the taste was fine, not fantastic. Overall the experience was not worth our drive. If we ever pass by again I would consider ordering something different from the menu. But I'd get take out and not eat in this place again. Left smelling like smoke and grease even though we were seated by an open window. They need get a better ventilation system. I just don't get the hype. I was disappointed.

Staying in Toronto for a month in Hillcrest village area and while scoping out the area popped in to look at the menu - we're glad we did. The lovely Lisa treated us to a sample of chicken - enough to tempt us back the evening for dinner. We'll be back before we go!

My family members and I absolutely love this restaurant! It may take some time to get a seat, but it is well worth the wait. The chicken and waffles are awesome, the ribs are awesome, the pulled pork is awesome, the burgers are awesome, and after trying the brisket, you'll be willing to sell your soul for another order! It is that good! Quite simply, you cannot go wrong with anything that you order at this place.
