The Leslieville Pumps - Toronto

Finally managed to visit Leslieville Pumps General Store

We stopped in to split one of their amazing BBQ sandwiches and eat outside on the picnic tables. We love this spot, smack dab in the middle of Leslieville. And it really has a gas bar! We always feel like we are on Highway 11 somewhere at a General Store :) Food is great, btw!

Don't be fooled that it just a gas station, this place serves up amazing food, especially the sandwiches of various BBQ meats. I got the chicken sandwich which was very moist and flavours very well. Great place!

My sister heard from her friend Peter (a food photographer) that this place serves great food, so I took her to the Leslieville Pumps for lunch today. She had the chili and I had the poutine loaded with chili. Both were great, though I believe the loaded poutine (skin-on fries) would have been better if they had held the gravy. Chili on 'cheesy fries' is effectively a form of poutine (we have had it like that elsewhere), and I found that the taste of the gravy conflicted with, rather than complemented, the beef brisket chili to the detriment of the latter. It was very tasty all the same, but not as good as it could have been. Some people may like to have the gravy with the chili, but my suggestion would be to indicate to customers that gravy would not be added to the poutine loaded with chili unless they wished to have both. I was disappointed to find that I could not have a beer (or wine) with my loaded poutine, but they do have Dad's Root Beer, which was an acceptable non-alcoholic alternative. They also offer what looks to be a range of old-style sweets (e.g Cracker Jacks) and probably the most comprehensive range of Reeses' peanut butter cups I have seen to date. Their prices are relatively low, so a very good value for money option. They don't apparently offer delivery, but I found mention online that delivery can be arranged through DoorDash.

Cool little neighbourhood gas station that serves smoked BBQ sandwiches and other eats. Love the aesthetics and the retro candy confectionery!
