The restaurant had an interesting mix of sophistication and a younger, more casually dressed crowd. A grand piano took center stage, where Trevor Gowan entertained us with his music. The scallop appetizer was delicious, but my sea bass was overshadowed by the overpowering sliced radish on top. My partner's sea bass was visually appealing but lacked flavor, especially when paired with bitter radicchio. Dessert was forgettable, a chocolate dish that thankfully didn't disappoint. Overall, the meal had its highs and lows.
My husband and I made a reservation for Valentine's Day at this restaurant. We have visited many eateries in the area and heard good things about this one, so we decided to give it a try. We were informed that we would be seated in a booth with a pianist and special guest performer. However, upon arrival, we were taken to a separate room with no view of the main room where the entertainment was happening. I requested what was promised to us, but the server bluntly told us it was not possible. I was puzzled as to why this request could not be accommodated, especially since the seating arrangement had been finalized hours earlier. Additionally, our reservation should have entitled us to front seating without any extra charges. The bill took 20 minutes to arrive, the visa machine was not working, and the dessert was not good.
We decided to try Sopra Upper Lounge using a LivingSocial deal, which provided a well-priced night out for the four of us before the holiday rush. Sometimes restaurants can be dismissive towards customers using deal vouchers, but this was not the case at Sopra. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a lovely table. The service throughout the evening was attentive but not intrusive, and we were treated like royalty. The food was fantastic, with a 5-course tasting menu paired with wines. From the truffle in the first course, to the addicting beet risotto, to the decadent brownie, we savored every bite and every sip of wine. In a state of pure happiness, we ordered more coffee and digestifs to extend the magical experience. It was a truly memorable night!
Much hyped because of the celeberity chef but everyone in my group found the food to be very, very heavy. Tasty, but heavy. I have not had a meal like this in 20 years. I hear that the room becomes a party some nights but not this one.
