This was my first time to the Olde Towne and just a week before Christmas we were Lucky to find a table for a group of 8. I really appreciated the warm and cosy atmosphere of the place and found the menu quite interesting interesting: oysters obviously, 7 appetizers, 5 mains and 4 desserts. Some of us shared oysters. I had the seafood chowder, followed by the duck confit and finally the creme brulee. Whether one took the house pasta (gnocchi), the white fish or beef (short ribs or steak), all were unanimous in their praise: top ingrédients, cooked to perfection and tasty. The house suggested a couple of wines to match our order. All in all a great evening. The Olde Town is a bit pricey but, this is downtown Toronto and the quality is there.Definitely Worth a return visit.
Being a very cold new year's eve, we decided to stay close to home and dine at a local restaurant. We saw that the Olde Towne Bistro & Oyster Bar was offering a 5-course Prix-fixe for $59. Loving honest bistro cooking, we decided that this would be a good time to check it out as it recently opened. (It was previously Lucien - which was lovely but a bit pricey for us). Boy are we glad we did, as everything was great. A trio of PEI Oysters or classic Shrimp cocktail as amuse Bouches; seafood chowder or organic greens with hummus as a starter; then two (1) entrees: seared Pork Belly or seared albacore tuna, then duck confit & cassoulet or Lake Erie whitefish, the for dessert classic creme brulee or sticky toffee pudding. Service was efficient and pleasant, the courses well paced and efficiently delivered. the decor was warm and casual yet inviting. This is the fourth Bistro in the area, along with the Beer Bistro, O&B's Biff's and the disappointing Papillon. I hope Olde Towne Bistro & Oyster Bar is here to stay, as we'll be back... SOON!!!
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely prix fixe menu for a New Year's Eve dinner. It was a 5 course menu with two choices per course. The food was excellent but the service needs a little tweaking. The waitress needs a little personality as she was very abrupt. The pacing of the courses could have been better as we were rushed through the first three courses and then it took a while for the remaining courses to be delivered. As the courses were items on their regular menu, it was a good indication of what they were capable of on a regular basis. The meal was good value for the dollar and made for a special dinner. We look forward to returning for another visit.
Not a common combination but the Olde Towne Bistro & Oyster Bar delivers wonderful dishes made from the best ingredients at a price that is very affordable. We were regular visitors to its previous incarnation as Lucien, but this was our first visit since Simon rebranded his restaurant. Last night my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner and exceptional service. You should go there. This is what bistro style eating is really all about.
