Przekaż informację zwrotnąI visited this place so many times, mostly for to go. They have a lot of choices on their menu, the one I like best is lampries. It is a mix of different kind of cooked vegetables, boiled egg, sambar, on top of rice and wrapped with banana leaves. You can add any meat (chicken, beef, mutton, etc) or just that. It tastes amazing if you like spicy food, the real spicy!
If this is your first time eating Sri Lankan cuisine, it is advisable to take someone who is already familiar with the cuisine to this restaurant, or ask for recommendations from him/her.We went on a Saturday night. The restaurant is located in a strip plaza in Toronto's eastern end. It was almost empty, and there was no one at the reception to help us with the seats - we had to go and look for the owner.On that particular day, there was only one waiter for all the patrons. We started with milk hopper, which is basically a plain 'dosa" with coconut milk. That was quite tasty even without any condiments. Based on waiter's recommendations, we ordered a thaali which had rice and six vegetables. However, the vegetables were served almost at room temperature robbing it of its flavour. We also had kottu roti, which is basically stir fried rotis with mixed vegetables, and idli sambhar. The idli's weren't quite fluffy.We finished our dinner with "Madras coffee". We were expecting a filter coffee but were instead served regular Indian style coffee - warm milk with instant coffee. It took quite a while for the server to bring us our coffee.In a nutshell, either don't go with high expectations, or go with someone who is knowledgeable about the cuisine/restaurant.
Oh mother of all meals, man, this is tasty stuff! A bit hard to find but worth it. Try the lamprey. Wrapped in a banana leaf. steamed rice and curry and tons of little surprises and all this again wrapped in butcher paper and the size of a severed head. Oh man. What yum!
I have been to Sri Lanka twice and struggle to find good Sri Lankan food. This is definitely the best I have had. We got the shrimp curry (over the crab) at the recommendation of our server. It was excellent. The hoppers/appam were also wonderful. I would come back here when I come to Toronto.
I had Indian style Roti and Mutton curry which was tasty. The Kottu roti was good too. They also have Sri Lankan savoury items like Patties, Cutlets, Rolls Fish buns (Maalu pan) etc. which are very good. The place is clean. Ambiance is purely functional.
