Nana has the same ambience of a lot street restaurant you would step into travelling to Bangkok. its is just great. I'm a big an of real Pad Thai and I can promise this is the most authentic you can find in Toronto. Curries are great as well and some starters are the best you can find around. The place is very tiny and fill up very quickly, but it is a whole different experience.
I was looking forward to trying a new Thai spot. Here's a quick summary:The food:- southern fried chicken salad ($12). My favourite dish of the three items. Not really a salad tho, more like popcorn chicken with a msg-like lemon pepper seasoning.-boat noodle soup with beef ($16). Not my fav, beef was tough, not enough noodles and the broth is an acquired taste.- Kua gling pork ribs ($16). Decent overall.- fresh spices are great! The Service: very attentive and pleasant servers. Food took a while, particularly after the starter even tho the restaurant was half empty.Atmosphere: good location. Decor is an interesting street fare. Cheap tables and stools which aren't comfortable at all. The cheap decor and lack of comfort don't match the price. Overall, not a cheap place and feels subpar. I was at Sabai Sabai recently and that place feels like fine dining for a similar price point. If you're hanging in queen west and craving Thai, it's worth a try. But there are much better options in the city and recommend you try something else.
Friends recommended this place, it's their fav thai restaurant in the city, so we came early before going to a movie. I ordered a cocktail while waiting for my party and was pleasantly surprised; it had an enticing aroma and was well balanced. The drink menu is small but seems quite thoughtfully put together. As much as I enjoyed the drink I wouldn't recommend making a night of it simply because the seating isn't comfortable enough. That said, we were there for a quick meal and enjoyed everything that was put in front of us. We started with the spring rolls which were very tasty and different from any other spring rolls I've had but not as crunchy as they looked. For mains I ordered the thai basil pork from the menu of their sister restaurant Koa San Road and requested it thai spicy. This dish was packed with flavour and very satisfying, however the thai spicy was a bit too much for me and I would get it a level down next time. My boyfriend had the crispy chicken in yellow curry, which is truly beautiful and the perfect option if you want something mild but deeply flavourful and indulgent.Overall I'd consider this place an excellent choice for a qucik meal whether it's lunch, weeknight dinner or pre-bar hopping on a Friday or Saturday.
We had read about this place online and decided to check it out. The decor has this real local Thai feel to it. I felt like I was sitting somewhere in Bangkok, not downtown Toronto. Stools and tables are the order of the day, not fancy dining. If you're looking for elegant, then you have come to the wrong place. But to me, this was truly part of the charm of the place. The menu is broad enough to have a good selection, but not so broad as to overwhelm. Server was helpful in explaining anything we needed a better description of. One important piece of info was that they generally do not adjust levels of spice in their dishes. For me, not a problem. I like things as authentic as possible, and will trust the Chef. However, for some this is a bigger deal. Just good to know. Have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Pad Thai was one of the best we have had anywhere. Tom Yum soup was very good. Red Curry was absolutely fantastic. Honestly, one dish was more delectable than the next. The really interesting part was that we went with some people who are not the most adventurous in the world. But they tried everything cautiously, and then couldn't stop taking more for themselves. We are definitely going back. Perhaps not #1, but easily in the top handful of Thai restaurants in the city, and amongst the better ones I have been to anywhere.
