My family and I have been here for over 30 years. I never had a bad experience. the beaten steak and seafood in toronto
To see this restaurant from the street or even to walk inside, you would not have a sense of how good the dining experience will be. from the delicious soups and Crab starters to the general tsao chicken and spare ribs. everything was tasty, prepared well, and served with class and authenticity of some of the finer dining establishments in china. granted it is certainly on the pricey side so be prepared to spend generously but otherwise very enjoyable.
I've dined here about ten times over the past 2 - 3 decades, and it has never disappointed in terms of meeting my expectations. On this visit we had steamed lobster, NY cut steak and a couple of Cantonese dishes. The Chinese dishes were as expected, good, the steamed lobster was similarly predictable and what I really wanted since I had not been in a country with good lobster for a year, and the steak, well, was more than superb, cooked pink in the middle as requested, and flavourful to the extreme. Service was excellent, ambiance typical of an 80s steakhouse, and price was expensive, particularly for the lobster ($91.50 for 2.5 pounds). But it's hard to begrudge at any price as long as you leave full, and with a smile, which was the case with the four of us.
My husband and I were visiting in the area and decided to eat at House of Chan. We were quickly seated to our table and shortly after the waiter came over to ask if we would like a drink. The wine menu was incomplete, only listing a few wines like Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot etc. but not saying where they were from or a description. The Chardonnay that we selected was 11.00 for a 5 oz. glass and it was really harsh. No doubt a very inexpensive bottle if purchased at the LCBO. We ordered 1 order of Beef with vegetables but it was mainly full of red peppers and celery. We had a hard time finding any beef it it. We also ordered the lemon chicken which tasted dried out and was a very small portion. The waiter said that we had ordered enough food for two but it really was not enough. The food just didn't taste fresh at all. We left with a 71.07 bill before tip and we both felt hungry afterwards. So many better restaurants in the area to choose from so I would not recommend this place.
