It appeared like it was a disservice to go knowing that they would be closing their doors soon The only saving grace was the server, Andrea, I think? She made everything okay so I really hope she lands on her feet. Good servers are hard to come by.
I love the food here. BBQ'd fried chicken, jerk chicken, catfish fish n chips. corn bread, candied plantain (my favourite).Quaint little place that is nice and cozy but nit too small. However, they always seem to just have one staff member in the dining area, so service is really slow. Good service, but slow. I work nearby and go for lunch sometimes, but have to figure at least an hour and a half for a quick meal. It's worth it if you can spare the time.
My boyfriend and I went to Harlem for dinner and it was really good. I had the fried chicken with mac and cheese. Both were delicious, crispy and juicy fried chicken, nice gravy and hot sauce on the side, collard greens, and an amazingly cheesy mac and cheese. The staff was friendly and service was really quick, it wasn't super busy. The only complaint is that it was a little over priced and for some reason the restaurant was really warm which made me a little uncomfortable.
This is not just a great place to eat, it's a great place to be. The staff were prompt, friendly and keen to enjoy the evening with us. The drinks were exceptional and we struck up a fun rapport. The food was nothing short of authentic Caribbean. You can alter the drinks and the food for nonstandard taste but the ginger beer is fiery, the coconuts and corn bread savoury sweet and each dish delivered with care and attention to authentic and delicious content.Loved it. Will go at every chance I have.
Checked this place out on our recent trip to downtown Toronto. It was worth the walk to Queen West. Really quaint place with some real character. We sat in the little patio at the back of the restaurant which was really neat. Both of us ordered the Southern Fried Chicken, which was amazing. Mine had the side of coconut rice which was good and my partner had the mac and cheese which she loved. I had a Red Stripe for my drink which went well with the food. Service was friendly, maybe a little slow, but we were in no rush. Looks like they have live music, but it must be later in the night. I recommend Harlem if you are looking for some southern cooking.
