What Cobleys used to do right: Great customer service No pre cooking of food Clean oil producing light coloured batter The food was always fresh and tasted delicious. What was wrong with Chippies Plaice... Barely any customer service, the girl was OK but the guy in there didn't even acknowledge me. Obviously pre cooked food or not cooked enough. Chips were really soggy and dark in colour, sausages weren't cooked enough. The oil hadn't been cleaned recently as the batter was dark and greasy. Was an absolute tragedy we have lost Cobleys, only to have a company that don't seem to know how to produce good fish and chips. We used to send all our guests there. We won't be able to do that anymore. I didn't know they had been taken over when I ordered over the phone. When I got there it was empty. I now know why. Will have to find a new place to get our Chippy from. I hope the owners actually read the negative reviews and realise what the issues are.

Not same since new owners. Used to be the best now not great. I’ve had worse hence 2stars rather than 1 but really wasn’t great at all

I have used this chippy for years, tonight had haddock chips and mushy peas, was all half the size of previous visits, haddock was tiny and batter not fully cooked. Chips were nice. Mushy peas definitely only one person portion previously would have fed the family. Price increased product not worth the money. Won’t return again. Was extremely quiet I wonder why, always been very busy.

Has recently changed hands and, what used to be a great local chippy, is now poorly run and expensive. The prices have increased but the portions of everything we ordered were much smaller. We also waiting 25 mins to get fish and chips because the staff were giving priority to their online orders rather than the queue of people in the shop. There were only two staff and one of them was visibly sweating profusely whilst serving the food (not very appealing!

Was a bit dubious after reading some of the negative reviews but thought I would try it now there are new owners and glad I did. We had scampi and chips. Beautiful food cooked well and generous sized portions. Lovely lady served us very polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend (and I'm very fussy). This is one of the best chip shops I've been to in a long time.
