Stayed at the Motor Inn for wedding anniversary and had dinner at the restaurant. Excellent menu and very good service. The gardens surrounding the building are very well kept and had to the quality of the restaurant. We had a great night.
My wife and I were treated to a night out with dinner at Seasons restaurant by our daughter. What started out with us anticipating a good meal and some time together after a busy week ended very badly thanks to a poor meal and worse customer service from the restaurant manager. An entree billed as grissini turned out to be baked crusts of bread, not terrible but certainly odd. The other entree of lamb skewers was overcooked and therefore chewy. Not a great start but it got worse. My pork fillet was well cooked and quite fine but the fondant potatoes were soggy and bland. My wife fared worse, however. Her chicken breast was so overcooked it was inedible, the sweet potato crisps soggy and limp and the asparagus so overcooked they were as shriveled as a nonagenarian's fingers. My wife ate about four bites and I had perhaps half of my meal. When the waitress came to collect our plates she asked our opinion of the meal. I described it pretty much as I have above, politely and matter of fact. I told her it was disappointing and she apologised and said she would tell the manager, mentioning that they had passed on feedback to the kitchen about the sweet potato chips before and thought that problem had been solved. My wife and I decided not to order dessert, not wanting to tempt fate, and went to the counter to pay. Here's where things got really bad.I work in customer service and I think one of the basic rules is not to ask for feedback if you dont want to hear it. The woman behind the counter did not introduce herself but I assume from her reaction she was the aforementioned manager. Heres how it went: She: So you didn't like your meals.Me: It was disappointing. She: We make our own chips, you know, not like at Guzman y Gomez or one of those places.Me: ?She: Our pork fillet is usually very nice too.Me (wondering what the waitress told this woman): re-iterating the actual problems with our meals. She: I can take some money off the cost of your meals, I suppose.Me: We didn't ask for that and are happy to pay. She: Calculates total cost of meal and discounts the two main meals by 10%, the princely sum of about $7. Dismisses us with a sour look and a firm "Good Night".We won't be going back.
The service was really good, when we first entered the place, polite but not intrusive. And that's the only good thing we can say. The starter, Grissini, traditionally a breadstick, appeared to be left over slices of bread, randomly broken into 'chunks', completely flavourless and the trio of dips, a slurry of poorly mixed cream cheese with some insipid flavours. The chicken breast main was overcooked to a dry leather texture, the sweet potato chips a soggy unidentifiable stack and the fresh asparagus cooked to within an inch of its life, criminal to treat a tender beautiful vegetable in such a way. The fondant potatoes were a pale, insipid, soft 'baked' potato. We were asked how we enjoyed the meal, and unfortunately, if you can believe it, the experience only got worse! Defensive, angry and rude to say the least. We were asked to comment on our experience and we did, we weren't rude, we didn't make a fuss, we were just wanting to pay the bill and go, we weren't looking to have the bill reduced. No apology, we were informed that the sweet potato chips were hand cut and not from a packet, which only made it worse, no one should admit to torturing a vegetable so mercilessly! We were also informed that no one had ever complained about the pork. We had no issue with the pork, never mentioned it! So the end result was a surly ? maître d' who offered to take $7.00 off a $120 meal bill! We certainly wont go back and wouldn't recommend it. It was awful.
