Authentic old school pub. drinks are nice and the staff is super friendly. eating is nice, although the lamb was a bit overcooked and the chicken had too much sauce on it, but overall everything was beautiful. huge portions, easy to share with others.
The previous assessments are extremely outdated and contain, in my opinion, unfair assessments of a time before the acceptance of the current operators. my man and I went on Saturday (melbourne cup weekend) to the royal standard and the place was absolutely flowering and completely booked. we were thrilled that despite the liveliness (and how to visit all previous) we were incredibly impressed and satisfied with the food and service. the current operators make an amazing job. In summary, I can not recommend this warm and friendly country pub high enough.
Eating was okay. the waiting time was not bad for ordering at table times, in fairness it was a busy night. I found the dining room far over cramped, as the waiting staff could not easily get to diners and had to take help from other diners to get platters to sit. and if they wanted to stand up to order, they had to apologize to the diner behind them while they were constantly jostling them each time they moved. the esscure themselves were exceptionally uncomfortable to sit. a worker identified vegetarian lasagne for chicken carving wrong. in my opinon this is very difficult to do. the bardame gave me the glasses I asked for, took the half with her when she left.
Do not leave you from the Drab outside this beautiful old building, nor the bad reviews in the past. the place is under new management. this place has worked out everything. principle 1: be kind and smile at the man. make sure they get what they want. 2. good, cheap food. as pub we did not expect, posh esszimmer, and that is not, but it is very good and plentiful (a deer size was enough for us,) and delicious. 3. have good decoration. this place is nice enough for a 100-year-old hotel, with a place for children to play while the adult drink, and a look at the backyard with play so inclined for those. they could learn to make better coffee, it was...read more
