Hippopotamus - Thillois

Restaurant wasn’t busy but service was slow and didn’t deliver everything we ordered together. Had to wait for vegetables and fries. Entrecôte was small and expensive. Prices were high and standards not as good as in the past.

We were staying locally in a budget hotel and got a 10% discount and our expectations were not high but we were pleasantly surprised. The welcome was positive, the staff friendly and the food good. If you are staying nearby I’m sure there are worst places.

Barely greeted at the door upon arrival. Waited 5 minutes (with a small child and a baby) before we were eventually seated, then forgotten about for another 20 minutes. Drinks and food came quickly and baby meal heated up immediately. One soda left on the table un opened so I had to pop the metal lid with a fork. Child’s menu decent, my burger delicious but cold chips, no sauce and never got the water I ordered.asked to pay at the till and again waited 5 minutes before someone came to let us pay. I got the impression that the staff had little experience and badly managed. No organisation at all and seriously missing charm or even basic client relations.

I visited here with half a-dozen friends in September. we all chose different dishes from the menu and all enjoyed our food. Service was good and the price was reasonable.

The food was tasty and very filling just your basic steaks burgers etc but very well cooked and presented. We had the shared meat platter to start and it was massive but very good. The waitress was friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Not your traditional French bistro but as this was an overnight stop on the outskirts of Reims it was very good and also busy with local people.
